If you are refering to the NPC trainers that used to learn you skills etc in game, those have been removed. Once you hit the needed xp points you automatically gain the next lvl.

You no longer can. Artisans learn artisan skills, medics learn medic skills

You can't have skills from different professions on the same character now. If you want medic skills you will have to visit a Profession Counsler wich stands in front of the Spaceport in Coronet and respec your character to Medic. But then you will no longer be a Artisan

being able to mix skills was neat, but it also made the game impossible to balance.

i remember trying to pvp, and it was impossible to win unless you had at teh very least, a full tree of medic, since heals won pvp battles.

impossible to balance, when anyone can learn any skill - with restrictions based on everyone having the same number of limited points to spend on skills - balance wasnt an issue, there were so many different skill combinations that were considered to be 'the best' but in reality, there was no one skill combination that would always win, in the end it came down to tactics and equipment, which strangely enough, is probably still the deciding factor. the game needed changes, of that there is no doubt, i still think alpha classes have no places in mmo's and that the whole buff side of the game was drastically unbalanced, a situation by the way, which i think is in the process of re-occuring. perhaps they still havent learned from past mistakes :(

thats why balance was an issue, they cant forsee what combinations people will come up with, out of the 32ish proffs, and while there may not have been a set of skills that would always win, there were certainly many thatw would always lose, like i said any skill build without healing, at least when i played.

the fact that there were so many different skill sets, or professions as you call them, was one of the main factors of the game, people tend to misunderstand what balance really means, or at least have misconceptions. Balance isnt about everyone being equal, i just wish people would understand that, it was possible to learn skills that didnt give a positive edge in combat, but not all skills were combat related, or if they were, sometimes they were a necessary step towards another skill that did give a significant edge, in combat. The balance issue, in SWG, was not the professions as such, it was the ludicrously overpowered buffs, the trouble is, in that combating this problem, they threw out the baby along with the bathwater, and the game has suffered from it ever since, even now, balance issues are still a problem, if not becoming more of a problem. its about time the buff system, underwent a significant nerfing. they need to really concentrate on core mechanics, rather than this 'lets bolt on another tier' mentality.

QFE

it was the only game that let you do that, was fun for a while, i remember i had all kinds of random skills, i was a joke in pvp- the uber temps would eat my face. not no more. my 90 spy can give a BH or DS jedi a kick in the pants.. LS jedi i will just stay cloaked. you can play a total scoundrel/scum now that stands some chance amongst those of honor. in preCU feigndeath was fun but it didnt win that many fights.. CU lastditch was hilarious and deadly, tho chancey. That only last like what 8 months. Lastditch actually brought a small element of twitch- to time it right.. At least they brought pistol whip back- too bad my Bria 7smuggler is only CL 37.

spies are like a nat to a ls jedi, most of them. very few spies can handle a ls jedi if they can then they are good but most fail.
