Title: SWG - State of the Union - LaunchPad Patching? Sony knows it's krap and doesn't care.

I would like to know what lucas arts is doing about how sony is running swg. The players complain and sony ignores us, while releasing expansions and patches that doesn't fix anything, but things we didn't even ask about. The patches they release only fix exploits and stuff that's broke, but nothing that doesn't work the way it's supposed to. And when you mention something important, they don't give you a direct answer, or pass and answer someone else's question. I have posted numerous topics in various different forums regarding the problems that plague swg users and petitioned serveral times. I have contacted the bug department and no response.

If the customer is always right, then we should not be ignored. I'm sick of the unprofessionalism I'm seeing. I want to hear that an effort is being made to fix both client and patching issues. Every solution that is mentioned has not been a remedy.

The launchpad patcher can't resume interrupted downloads, so it ends up downloading the same files over and over again, for someone like myself on a dial-up connection. I've tried re-installing, running a clean boot with no programs or filewalls running, I've even tried in safemode.

The patcher will not and can not resume downloads. If you get dissconnected, your system reboots/crashes, or for some reason you close the program, whatever file you're downloading will have to start over.

I've inspected the "StarWarsUpdate.log" and some of the files for updating are over a 100 megs, which can take a toll on dial-up connections. my experience with the current problem is that the patcher is not resuming downloading files, and this is a big problem, because the most I've ever downloaded on one connection without getting disconnected is 82 megs, and then followed by a disconnect. At that point, you have to rescan or restart the patcher, thus it just downloads the same files over and over and never finishes.

Look for yourself.

[01:11:44] Patcher: Downloading data_sample_00.tre
[dloadsize=104636589; totalsize=104636589; crc=-255241016]
[01:11:44] Patcher: Continuing from offset 17659896...
[dloadsize=104636589; totalsize=104636589; crc=-255241016]

If it was really "continuing from offset" as it says, it would imply that it was resuming a download that I started earlier, and if that's not what's it doing, then I am really pist, because this means that people on dial-up are getting screwed.

I asked a tsr on the official forums and I'm currently waiting a response. A quote of my question below.

Now I would really apreciate it mr. tsr, if you could tell me if the patcher is capable of resuming file downloads after being dissconnected, from where it stopped?

They have neglected to answer me. They don't want you to you know that their patcher sucks. Your time would be better spent using fileplanet and using their download manager downloading the trial. It's alot slower, but atleast you can resume.

I want to know what sony is doing to fix the problem. This is 2008, why can't our downloads resume. Wake the freak up, not everyone has broadband!

See, this is why people resort to hacking and using 3rd party applications, because you ignore our requests for better features. This is why swg is dying and it's your fault.

Watch them release another expansion and ignore our complaints about the patcher completely. I would pay good money to see someone do something drastic to get their attention. I imagine they have other games pulling more $$$ in and they just want to keep this one going smoothly.

I think we're taking our complaints to the wrong person. I think we should be consulting with the source of evil, lucas arts or george himself. I'm going to be starting topics on the lucas websites, maybe that will get some attention to the problem at hand. and you know what pisses us off is not even the problem I've mentioned, it's just the current flavor of the month. This is just the straw that broke the camel's
back. What about the countless problems in game. the point and mash
buttons combat system is completely retarded. At high end, if you make it there eventually, there is not enough decent gear for jedi's and pretty much nothing to do but pvp.

In the other sony games like eq, there is plenty to do and over 200 zones to explore. The client is nerfed down so much that is it's mostly social and roleplay, not really based on progress anymore. The servers are under populated and there also needs to be some server merging. If I had to say any specific reason why I still play swg, merely for roleplay and the spirit of the starwars series. I really think that the world has forgotten all about starwars.

I remember when 10 year olds would spend all day ganking people because they had nothing better to do, because the jedi process was taking so long that they had become bored. Remember when noobs couldn't be jedi's or when if a jedi was killed, it was game over?

Sony has completely screwed the pooch on this one. Lucas sold his studios where he made the films, and is prob retired. I see the starwars series dying out unless something is done with the unprofessional attitude running the industry.

The client on the other hand, the servers are under populated and need server merges asap. They're seriously lacking high end content, especially of the raid type. The classes are unbalanced, it's usually either the bounty hunters and jedi's ganking everyone, all the other classes don't even stand a chance. Jedi lack decent gear, it's very hard to find and assemble, let's just say we're seriously under geared for being lev90.

SWG is over five years old, and we lack so much than the rest of the mmorgp's around. IMO, SWG and the starwars series is almost dead for pc users. We crave so much and our expectations has been such a disapointment.

I want to know what the industry is doing to meet our complaints & expectations. I want answers.

Last time I checked...you don't have to use it...or maybe I'm just doing it wrong. Doubt it...but it is indeed possible. I have been know to come down with Ftardedness...but in this case...I don't think so. Using the software is optional, so why ***** about something you don't have to use?

hahahah, this always cracked me up, do you honestly think lucas arts doesnt know what happens? they control the starwars license with a tight leesh, they dont care.

They rushed KotOR 2 out to make sure they got the holiday rush,. i dont know why anyone thinks there some god buisness that hates bad" things.

LA is just as responsible for anything Wrong with SWG as SOE.

and oh ya, if your server is unerpopulated, either STFU, transfer, or roll ona new server.

Bloodfin has tons of people, i counted easily over 100 in easily alone the one day.

I think I find the funniest part, is that your complaining about a lack of technology on a patcher, while saying they should conform to your inability to upgrade your internet.

Here's something for you. Try standing in the middle of a crowd and tell everyone in the room to yell about something different. Have about five people listen in, and then repeat back what every person said.

This is what gaming companies have to deal with. There are a lot of people out there, and they've acknowledged their mistakes and some of these new updates are actually quite enjoyable. I myself just reactivated.

Look, its your call. Deal if you want to. If not, don't complain.

I think Daemonrebel was crying for help. Really about the dial up connection issues. And sadly, when you play ANY massive on line game with a dial up connection, you will never run out of things to complain about. This forum cannot help you with that, as its all your choice. The other issues, well. Many of us veteran players, those who were here pre-NGE and post, still love this game as much as we ever did. Be patient with changes for Jedis, Spies, whatever..little changes like that (equipment, buffs, etc) are always coming, going, and changing. They have ever since i started playing. Some changes i like, some i dont. But there are others that love the change that i may hate. That's just part of the game. I do hope you stick with it. Get rid of that dial up connection for even a slow DSL setup, or satellite dish. You will enjoy it more. And you will enjoy it more at some times than others. But in the end, the choice is yours. Let the Force guide you Jedi..good luck!

I think you missread my post. I'm not some 10yr old kid who plays for free because mommy and daddy pay for everything. I work really hard to pay for my online gaming addiction. Loyal subscribers are the backbone of sony's online products. They're only hurting themselves by not listening to us.

they can't listen to everyone can they. its a case of, in trying to please (or maybe appease is more appropriate?) the majority, its inevitable that some will be unhappy, im sorry but in a perfect world maybe this would be different, given unlimited time and resources, but its not perfect, and they can only do so much :(
While i can't say i agree with SOE's handling of the game, they are now at least, moving it in a more 'acceptable' direction, its unfortunate but the game as it stands is one we can either accept. or move on, there are other games out there, if this one doesnt suit then im sure theres one that does. i still think btw, that the station access represents good value for money.

i think good value is an understatement, since you get something like, 6 or 7 games for the price of 2, of course thats only if you have each one.
