"Core Market? You think you're my core market? How adorable."

I got Wii for the games I knew I wanted to play, for Zelda, Mario, and Smash, but I was expecting more than just that, and Nintendo has yet to deliver. I was happy that the Wii was vastly outselling the 360 and PS3 because I thought it might translate into more developer interest, meaning better games. But somewhere along the way Nintendo stop caring about gamers and began focusing on novelty players. I hoped for Kirby, Donkey Kong, and Banjo-Kazooie, and many more, but nothing.

Can't blame them really. If MicroSoft and Sony want to appeal to hardcore gamers, it only makes sense that Nintendo would want to appeal to the "Casuals". Spply/demand etc etc. One of the reasons Nintendo have houses built of money.

Genuine chuckle there. I am glad I stuck with PC even through the worst Console craze. That way I spared myself humongous amounts of wrath/anguish/disappointment as this product or that developer or yonder publisher suddenly makes a 180. Awww, your console isn't what you thought it would be anymore... Poor you. Want to come and play pretty much every single game published at my house? I've got a PC you see, and there's not many games that aren't ported to PC sooner or later.

After all, it's the best gamer "console" out there.

Not for mindless fighting games that you can spend decades learning only to be beaten by a halfwit chimp sitting on the controller! Smiley: schooled

Yeah, I'm EXTREMELY disappointed in the library of utter GARBAGE available for the Wii.
I bought mine with similar enthusiasm. Now my Wii just sits there collecting dust.

same here.

what a waste of 500 bucks.

I still think wii sports is the best game on it, that is sad.

You spent 500 dollars on the wii?
Quote:

And apparently have atrocious taste in games. You're either exaggerating or blind, or you just bought a wii for a very bad reason. I'm not disappointed with the wii simply because I knew exactly what I was buying. I expected and got handed a lot of nintendo software.

My current library (exclusives only)

re4
RE Umbrella Chronicles
Zelda
Smash
Fire Emblem
Trauma Center
Trauma Center
Okami
Galaxy

There are a few other games that I'd like to play, but if I had to compare the libraries of the wii to the xbox they each have about the same number of titles that interest me. I will say that I can rank everything on that list save galaxy above a 7.5, and zelda, smash, fire emblem and okami are all over 8.5s

Anyone who expected the wii to have good (exclusive) titles that were not made by nintendo made a very foolish choice. Nintendo is a good software developer, one of the best in fact. They aren't that great at hardware anymore, and it's obvious that most third parties hate the wii. I guess I'm more surprised that people thought that a nintendo console would be good for much more than nintendo titles.

Allegory, your complaint seems a bit different than that though, and I'd like to know exactly what you mean. If you mean that you want more nintendo titles then that's certainly a good complaint. I would love to have a new star fox using infrared targeting systems. A new kirby would be nice also.

Patently false, but whatever. At least say what you mean: "all the games that I care about and selectively choose to represent my interests come out on the PC." For what it's worth, almost none of the games that I care about make it to the pc... but that doesn't mean games don't exist on the system.

I wont argue that.

And no i didnt spend 500 dollars on just the wii. I, like most people i would guess, also bought games and accessories with it, each of which was also very disappointing. I beat mario galaxy because i felt i HAD to since i had just spent so much money. Then i played a bunch of zelda, and was not impressed at all. I really gave that game a shot too.

Wii sports is pretty good, i still play it when my parents come over... lol

As for my taste in games... atrocious? hardly. My problem is i expect TOO much from games now that xbox and PS3 have raised the bar. I expect a visually pleasing experience as well as great gameplay standard. I cant even go back and play regular Xbox games anymore because of the graphics and they have better graphics than the wii.

Doesnt matter though, its all about personal likes. My console games of choice are sports, racing, FPS, action. Much further down the list is RPGs and Platforms. So yeah,

I pretty much have not played with my Wii all summer (insert lol here). The library has faltered, particularly with the replay value of games. The only game I have that is worth playing more of is Smash Bros., and even that I haven't touched in a couple months (due in part to outside factors, but still).

I plan on purchasing a 360 in a few months and its current library alone will be enough to last me a long time, not to mention the stuff we'll see during the holiday season.

So you're just a graphics ***** basically? I understand that graphics are nice to have but you can not go back to the original xbox due to it's graphics?

I'd take issue with the wii underperforming the original xbox.;.. metrid prime 3 outshines everything that I can think of on that console. It's not that the wii can't make decent looking environments; it's that noone cares enough to try except nintendo, and nintendo is busy being a ***** to consumers half of the time.

360 pros just dropped to 300 dollars. You can get refurbished one's for like 190. Then again I don't believe that you're in america so I have no idea how much it would cost you.

***

I got one mainly for the rpgs. For some stupid reason the 360 is second only to the DS in rpgs right now. Now why the DS is first I don't know either... Point is, among tales of vesperia, eternal sonata, lost oddysey, mass effect, blue dragon, and oblivion, there are too many rpgs on the console for me to ignore any longer. And ninja gaiden black was basically just zelda with blood and boobs (not a bad thing by any means), so good on number II also.

If you cannot recognize that zelda is a better quality game than wii sports then you have major problems. This doesn't require you to enjoy zelda more than wii sports. It requires an appraisal of the various standards to which each game lives up. There really is no contest here. Now, i've met plenty of people that don't like nintendo's games, and do like wii sports. Most of them are old women and very young children. You, however, are neither of these (I assume). It surprises me how one can simultaneously enjoy wii sports over zelda and make an argument about games being judged on pleasing visuals and sturdy gameplay. Wii sports has neither of these; zelda does, yet you enjoy wii sports... but think that other consoles have much better games. I am truly confused here.

What do you play anyway?

What I want is largely a return to the types of games we saw emerge on the N64. More Nintendo titles, but more good games mainly. I'm tried of all the various novelty games appearing on the Wii. Take for example the Rayman series. Rayman 2 was a great action adventure game, but the wii title is simply a compilation of novelty minigames.

KTurner unfortunately I do have to agree with Pensive, you sound like a graphics *****. Game play reigns supreme, and even art style towers over graphical prowess. Crysis had a very impressive graphical engine, but super high resolution grass and ferns aren't going to make a game look any better. TF2 scenery and characters look better because of the stylistic art choices, even with worse graphics.

Yeah graphics are very important to me.

I definitely do not think the characters and scenery in TF2 looked better than crysis... not even close... Not in my mind. Its cool that you like that in a game, i dont care about the "art". I played TF2 to go around shooting people, i would have preferred more crysis like graphics, but that wasnt an option.

like i said, it depends on the person. I like good gameplay and good graphics so the wii disappointed me. I expected some incredible gameplay to make up for the graphics and i didnt get it. In fact i saw more boring gameplay (aside from wii sports) from the games im used to.

Its simple, i judge a game based on how much fun i have playing it, which is the only reason I play games. I dont care what so and so thinks, or how much thought the developer put into it, or the cultural influences, or whatever. I have fun with Wii Sports when i have my parents over, who are grandparents... so your statement about old people and children isnt far off. But yeah, i have fun when i play it so its a good game. If a games gameplay is exceptional enough, it easily outweighs the graphics, and besides, wii sports is graphically clean. The characters and environment are simple, but thats obviously not the focus. The reason it has good gameplay is 100% because of the gimmicky wiimote.

Quote:

Heres a list of sorta recent games that ive played that i am glad i spent the money on.

Shooter: Halflife2 (orange box), Bioshock, Gears of War (wtb CoD4)
Racing: Forza Motorsports 2, Need for Speed series, Pro Race Driver series is my alltime fav for racing, but i havent played Grid beyond the demo so i cant say much on that one.
RPG: If sticking to console, KotOR/KotOR2/Jade Empire/Mass Effect (all basically the same game imo), Oblivion
Sports: I've been very disappointed with sports titles lately, Fight Night is a great game.
Action/Adventure: GTA4, Crackdown
Platform: The last good platform game i played was Ratchet and Clank on PS2 >_> is there a new one on the PS3?

Anyway, thats the gist, im sure there are some i forgot.

PC games i like are WoW, WC3, Sims, Silent Hunter 3, Flight Simulator X, Crysis is freakin epic... but i need a new comp to really enjoy it.

Remember, I'm not talking about fantastic games. I'm talking about the library of rpgs, because that is my defining genre. They are in the limbo of games that don't suck but aren't great either. When an rpg falls into this limbo, I'll consider it worth playing, if not a fantastic game; I also like just having a super traditional rpg sometimes like blue dragon, very straightforward and japanese and predictable compared to something like mass effect. Mass effect is a fantastic game, but sometimes I wish I could just have some simple turn based combat.

Another game like this was tales of symphonia. I loved playing it but recognized that it really wasn't anything special.

Well then, I am totally behind you. Metroid got ignored for an entire console generation and it made me retroactively sad (once I had played them all.) Nintendo has all these freakin' characters in brawl; they ought to make some games that star more than 4 of them. I kind of want an Advance Wars on the wii (not battalion) and I'd love to see a wii starfox and kirby. I wouldn't mind a fire emblem made for the wii... and not just ported from the gamecube to the wii. Man, I really am just like that poor pea.

Quote:

Most of us do, but we can also separate our personal feelings from the artistic value of a title. For example, tales of symphonia: very fun, average quality. But that's not what perplexes me; substituting preference for quality is common enough. What perplexed me was the talk about graphics and gameplay in the same sentence as wii sports.

I can name many games that are great even with their crappy graphics. Just because something is shiny doesn't mean it's good. I would rather have utter ***** graphics with a great game than a slop of **** that is more along the epileptic seizure inducing graphic quality of say...Speed Racer.

Case in point of a game that outshines many modern games. XCom: UFO Defense; or UFO: Enemy Unknown for you filthy Aussies and Euro trash. The strategy and depth of this game far outstrip many modern games. I'm sure each of us can name at least three of these gems.

Also, digression aside, I am also disappointed by the lackluster library of the Wii.

I am curious to see how Dead Rising turns out after its make...under?

Well it's not as if the wii doesn't have a good library at present, because at present it's beating the ps3 by miles (to be fair, what isn't?) and is lagging only slightly behind the 360.

I just can't think of much more that's going to come out in the next year, or ever, and that really is just sad. For both other relevant consoles there are years worth of games slated for release. After mario kart came out there was kind of nothing left in the works that appeals to me. I mean I"m sure wii fit is a great tool and entertaining way to manage weight but I'm not going to even consider "playing" (can it even be called playing?) it. That's not what I want out of a videogame console and (not like I didn't see it happening) the wii has expanded the market to such a broad audience that all I can do is cry about how great the super nintendo was.

It makes me feel as is nintendo just isn't all that interested in creating quality software, as if the classical series' inclusion would just be afterthoughts, soon as they finish with the token zelda and mario.
