You want a change, this should be it. (was forum=28)Follow

Hey, its been awhile but I was reading the OTT posts and decided, meeh what the hell? This isn't anything to do with game mechanics, or anything like that. And, this is something that not only FFXI should do, but Sony as well. I'm talking payment methods.

Now, we all know that FFXI will accept Visa and Mastercard, quite easily the two most popular types of cards out there, litterally one or the other is accepted everywhere. I own both types of cards, one is one of those pre-load types, the other is a typical monthly bill type. I first started playing by using the pre-load, cause my monthly bill was high enough IMO and for awhile all was good. Then suddenly it was no longer being accepted, even though there was plenty of "credit" on it and the card is still valid. No biggie, I'll use the monthly bill one, and again all was well. And again it suddenly stopped being accepted.

I contacted my providers from both cards to see WTF? They said, no issues on this side, but they did see the cards being rejected...costing my fifty cents for each time. So I called POL, and the answer I got was, "Why wouldn't we want your money? It has to be your bank." My answer was crude, rude, angered, and quite possibly full of curses. Because of this wonderful ghost reason, I haven't played FFXI in over a year..and yes I still get the shakes; Hell, I still go to the official FFXI website, and here almost daily to calm the shakes.

Anyways, onto my idea of change. WoW, and many other MMO's, plus Xbox and Nintendo have what is commonly referred to as "game cards". You know, drop 25 bucks or whatever for a month of WoW time, or 1400 Wii points, etc. Why, for the love of common sense and just good buisness sense for that matter has both POL and Sony ignored this ingenious idea? It definately isn't the fact that WoW has a better player community, and lets face it Nintendo's downloadable content is "Here's some old school games you haven't played since you bought a N64".

So, for the love of God, POL/SE/FFXI/Sony get with the game, adopt this idea and watch your player base/pocket book grow quite nicely. I know for a fact that Blizzard enjoys a lot of player cash because not every 13 year olds mom and dad will let him/her use their credit card but they will shell out 25 bucks for a card worth a month of play time. Xbox same thing for downloadable content. I've played WoW, just because I didn't have to apply for a new credit card to do so; But I'll say this only once with no apologies to the WoW fan base. WoW is like diet crack. The interaction isn't there, the fun isn't there, and the only reason to belong to a guild is to access the bank. I'm addicted to FFXI, and every other MMO out there sucks..deal with it.

I might be alone on this..hell, I'm probably just desperate to play the game again enough that I wish they would implement this. I have finally gave in and applied for another credit card just to play again..it should be here soon if the fates so choose it. It sucks that I will be starting over, but whatever. My problem now is..what should I play, and from what I've read..the Dunes is a virtual empty wasteland when it comes to PTing, but I've done much worse in this game then solo the first 20 levels or so. Still..no subjob..ouch..I'mma cry.

The reason then don't have the prepaid cards is due to the fact that every other paying MMO out there has a set fee with a set number of characters you can have. FFXI is unique where you can play all jobs with 1 character, but at least 75% of the player base has 1 or more mule characters, each character in FFXI costs another additional $1 a month making it rather hard for the prepaid card theory to work. The store would have to stock a $12.95 card, and $13.95 card, a $14.95 card etc etc to cover those people with multiple mules.

lol or, you know..they could just make the basic monthly charge card, and like a 20 dollar card. sure some people might have more then this in char fees, but you could always just you know..buy more then one card. In fact, they could just have the basic monthly fee card, and you could buy as many of those as you needed, a few roll-over creds never hurt. When I played WoW I bought like five of the things, I was good for five months straight. Why not the same idea. Regardless of wether or not its possible with FFXI, Sony could still implement it though. I say it could work for both the game and the PS3's store thingy.

OTT= Off topic thread btw.

OTT is Over The Top, which can mean one of two things. Either it's someone/something that goes too far, beyond what's considered "normal" or it's a really bad film about arm-wrestling that starred Sly Stallone.

Quite frankly, I'm ashamed to know of the second reference.
