Player friendly? Ease my poor head, pleaseFollow

I just left wow, having played it and found end of game content ok but the community was very bad. I came to LOTR and found so far the Community has been far better than any I have seen in wow..

However the player friendliness of the game set up is lacking.

No coordinates or map markings by players, not alot of details on maps to help those like me who are new and have no idea what south west might have ment to the creator of a certain quest. (yes, I do not know cardinal directions) but having took the big step and actually buying the game I am hoping the devs will concider perhaps making the game dynamics a bit more player friendly`?

I understand not wanting to release coding or wanting the headackes of player made addons but in all fairness can you at least offer to us abilties to make the game easier or shall I say less stressful to play?

I have now reached level 9 and have 7 completed quest I could turn in however after 2 hours of running around looking for the places to return them I have gave up and come here to beg.

I noted in a few post here on (allakhazam) quest that coordinates were used like 25.7 56.2 however when you do loc in game you do not get that. When asked where they got the coordinates they were told devs use those...well devs can ya share and let us use them too please..(also noted in game when you mouse over certain landmarks it gives the 2 digit combination location...

LOTR has captured my attention and so far I have found it refreshing other than the headacke from the lack of player friendly interface abilties.

Oh before anyone says there is such a thing in the game. It is very limited and you can not mouse over the map to find loactions, you can not mark land marks on your map for later use..

[link=http://lorebook.lotro.com/wiki/Mechanics:Map_Coordinate_System[/link] Here is the explantion of how the coordinate system works but again it only shows where you are at that moment

I'm just curious, but was WoW your first MMO, and what server are you on?

Sidenote: I'm oh so proud that you've already found, and attempted the lorebook.

You will likely find that as soon as you become acclimated to the game system (and rinse the foul taste of WoW from your mind) that you really don't need third party add ons to the UI.

Likewise, the quest directions tend to be so well written that even back in closed beta, when there was no where to turn for spoilers and hints, they really weren't needed! Just check your quest journal for details on where you need to look.

As far as finding NPCs and things on the map, you can enable a bunch of different options in the map itself that will tell you where most things are located - trainers, repair and sales NPCs, bank, postal box, rental horse... that kind of stuff.

You can always find your current location by sending a tell to yourself but as you noted, the convention is differnt from that used in guides.

And here's a trick for finding your compass point that you can use in-game or even in real life...

When you face North, West is to your left side and East is to your right. (And of course, South is behind you)

The lack of map markers etc has been a general complaint from the community since closed beta 2 years ago (Or however long it was.... yeah almost 2 years ago) While it is a minor pain, after you play a while you'll start to be able to remember where key NPC's are. Generally if you re-read the quest info, it'll say "So and So located in Random town" Just head to that town and look on your mini map for a ring icon, that seems to work well for me.

I've had zero issues with finding stuff in the game. The map updates with landmarks easy enough once you find them. The quest texts are insane at telling you exactly where your target is. There aren't any random-spawn "named" targets that you need for quests, 9 times out of 10. They're always up.

This game is so much more player-friendly than EQ... I just can't fathom how anybody can view it as NOT player-friendly.

If you're having a lot of trouble finding things, which does happen from time to time, no matter how well written the quests are, you can always pop over here:

Other than that, I echo the sentiments of a previous poster, i.e. 3rd party UI mods aren't really needed in LOTRO. The native UI is extremely flexible, and maybe the only thing you'd want to do is install something that gives it a more personal flair.

Make sure you read the quests thoroughly, do all the quests in an area before moving on, and try and finish a questlines through. You'll get to know where bouts your going without depending on a more technical map. If you're a hobbit do the pie and mail quests...you'll learn the area (ugh).

Maybe someone already mentioned this but to get loc you need to type ;loc and you'll get usable coordinates.
