So I bought it anyway.
I wanted something to play while I took a very short break from FFXI to wait for that delicious new update that came out today.
First, comments on the replies:
Really? You're going to let the title of a game alone be the deciding factor in your not purchasing it? It's your money, I guess. $60 IS a lot of moneyThe begining of the game is pretty dark. I mean IT'S DARK. But once you get out of the forest, it's not like that. There was a section of another dungeon that was dark, but if you bring the right items, it's not a problem.
Positive toughts:
For the most part, the battle system is pretty fun. There aren't any encounters per se. You see the monsters on the field and fight them right there. (or chose to run) There is one aspect I don't like, which I'll talk about in a secondSometimes, you will go on a mission where you will have a second, and sometimes third party. It kinda gives you a fun feeling to be rushing in with so many people to complete an objective. The characters and myhtos of the game are pretty interesting (to me). The main character is pretty much the standard RPG main character - doesn't know his parents, never had any friends, doesn't know how to talk to girls, but I can get over that as it's pretty much expected these days. It's very prettyThe voice acting is pretty bad, but it's such that it's actually hilarious and in a wierd way, I enjoy it. Honestly though, there are few games that have movie like good voice acting
Negative thoughts:
Using items in the field require you to stop what you're doing and open the menu. This makes healing and keeping people alive a bit of a hassle in battle. You can issue a command for any available party member to help heal, after which they will use magic or items to heal. But sometimes it seems like they wedge their heads very firmly up their asses and insist that they are way too busy, which has gotten me killed a few times. You will get some members of your party that you're not allowed to put in your main party. Only mildly annoying as there are plenty of useful characters that WILL go in your main party.Sometimes, it seems a little unclear where you're supposed to be going. You'll have a name for a city, but no idea where that place is. I suppose that was to encourage you to explore a little, but it's kinda annoying. Give me a direction.
Overall, I enjoy playing the game and have the fullest of intentions to finish it.
