so I bought Spore today...(kind of OOT)Follow

#1 Sep 07 2008 at 8:23 PM Rating: Good
. . . started installing while I read the little manual, was so exited!
But was quickly doomed when I sadly found out the desktop comp I would be playing on, it's video card doesn't meet the reqs -.-
I missed it when I looked at what the specs needed were...

total bummer. Was so ready to create what would be a killing bunny army.

So I turn to you all. I'm not a big PC Gamer, not knowing if my video card would handle a game should tell everyone that >.> (all i play is WoW, and WoW plays on almost anything. I'm more of a counsel gamer trying to get into more PC gaming).

What and where can I get a good/nice cheap (under $100 would be nice) video card that will handle Spore?

All it needs is a 128 MB card with support for pixel shader 2.0.

I'd rather not have to order online, because I don't own a CC, nor access to one to use.

Any help is wonderful. I don't want to have to return a game I've been waiting so long to come out.

thanks.

I highly doubt he has a PCI-E slot if his PC can't run it now, unless is has a POS onboard with a PCI-E slot (Like my new one did....) Need to know what type of card you PC can take before offering too much help.

I think I'm going to wait on Spore, the DRM sounds as if it's really draconian, only 3 installs and you're ******* Uninstalling doesn't get you an install back either.

Or you know, you can call EA if you use your three installs and get three more. People need to quit ******** about DRM, it's the future. Ten years from now, every game will have it.

And eventually, everyone will figure out a way around it.
Anyways...
I went out and bought it last night on EA's website, downloaded it overnight and installed it before work this morning.

Got home and played it all day yesterday. Not bad.

I kinda wish i made my guy evolve into a more humanoid looking thing... he ended up being a bigger, redder Geico gecko with antlers.

The single cell stage was very awesome imo, the most fun part to me so far. It had that katamari feel where you can tell you are just a small speck, but later grow to eat the things that used to look absolutely enormous.

Im in the middle of the tribal stage right now. I would like to befriend at least one other tribe, but they all attack me on sight so.... guess they will all BURN!

The way I hear it it's one install at a time, case by case basis. Either way as long as they keep giving me installs I would be fine with it, I don't pirate or download pirated games anyway. However, if they're going to **** it up to the point that it's more of a hassle to play than it's worth, then I'll spend my dime elsewhere.

This only really applies to system builders like myself, who usually redeploy their systems at least 2x a year. I've started imaging my main raid 0 array to make that easier and bypass a lot of this headache, but there are still times when you have to start from scratch.

I personally find it hilarious that DRM is actually starting to turn people over to pirated versions instead of the bought version. I personally never Pirate games unless I am iffy on whether or not the game is worth my money. If it turns out it is, I buy it legally anyway. But that Securom crap? Not buying Spore. **** no. It's almost as bad as that Starforce crap.

It was nice when they changed Mass Effect to play without a disk. All of my games get imaged and mounted with Daemon tools so I can play them without the CD, but Bioshock has thwarted my efforts and so I have to use the CD for it Smiley: frown

why not just crack them?

would be easier and save HDD space.

I don't have a PCIe slot. The computer has to be from around '00-'03. My mother just decided to buy a desktop one day, because she could get it for a deal..but it was used (she new the company that owned it, before they crapped out).

All I know is it has 3(well 2 right now) free PCI slots.

I read about this too. But i only plan on playing on this computer (I've yet to register online.. or well I think I haven't yet.. I don't remember getting that far). If the day comes to me needing more, then I wil deal with EA (but 1st..need a new video card -.-).

If your PC only has a PCI slot (not PCIe) you pretty much fubar'd I believe. I don't think they even MAKE PCI graphic cards anymore, let alone that will run Spore. Any chance you have a AGP slot in there?

No idea how to begin to do that and making a disk image is easier. I have a terabyte of storage so space really isn't a problem.

I have no idea ><" lol. I'm so out when it comes to computers it is really a joke.

All i know how to do is turn them on, and use them (with some knowledge on how to add/take away parts).

Anyways, I asked someone if I fronted the cash I I could use their credit card. Wasn't told no...
A few here look nice. (tiger direct)

is there a better place I should check out if I order online?

Thanks.

trust me, in 95% of the cases, cracking would be a hell of a lot easier than making an image, just a matter of replacing a file most of the time.

There's no point in upgrading that. If the motherboard doesn't even have an AGP slot, it's beyond Ye Olde and well on it's way into Stone Age. Build a new computer / Have someone build you a new computer / Buy a new prebuilt computer / Have someone buy you a prebuilt computer. No other solution, really. Face it. After Spore, there'll be another game. And another. And another. All of which won't run on that Ye Olde 'puter.

Besides. These days a computer is thrown after you for almost nothing.

I was in a similar situation (Cept the computer was my parents), so I decided that I wanted a nice 'puter, so I got me a credit card, and bought a $3000 computer.
Has run every game fine so far.

A 3k dollar comp would be sweet. But I'm uber broke.

There is a thread on the WoW forums similar-ish. Someone posted this site, I still need to read it, but it seems like it might be the best way to go.
