Worst Final Fantasy GamesFollow

#52 Nov 27 2008 at 1:05 AM Rating: Excellent
1, 2, and 3 I never could get into. Dunno why, they just never caught my attention.
4 was and will always will be my personal favorite. Didn't like the surprise end boss who came out of nowhere though.
Liked 5 a lot. Won't say loved, but liked a lot.
6 was great. While it wasn't -my- favorite, it's the best FF game ever made, period. One of the best villains of all time, hands down.
7 was good, but it was overrated. Overhyped, overadvertised, and overemphasized. In the end, it was the first 3D Final Fantasy and happily sported one dimensional characters. The only one who had any decent sort of character development was the only one to get killed off (Phoenix Down anyone? Anyone???) and the final villain was too obsessed with "mommy".
8 was okay but the draw system ruined it. You have to draw 300 of everything, and then never cast spells? Lame.
9 was pretty fun and I'd happily replay it anytime.
10 was okay. Yuna and Rikku were both WAAAYYY too happy and just annoyed the **** out of me; I couldn't stand it and gave up around Macalania. Tried again later, gave up again for the same reason.
10-2 was ALMOST as bad but I suffered through most of it, following a 100% completion guide. Missed .1% somewhere by the last chapter, couldn't find where. Gave up and quit.
11 I still play. Has its faults, sure, but I don't see myself quitting anytime soon.
12 I liked. Reminded me of an offline FF11; all the fun without the retarded noobs, NM competition, or AH price gouging.

I actually liked MQ for what it's worth.
FFL and FFA I liked as well.
FFT was one of my favorites by far. I admit though that I use the "Never lose JP" cheat from game shark whenever I play though.

No I meant the second time... When your trying to save Krille's Dragon...

Even so it's worth finishing, The ending is fantastic.

My list

1) A good game for some DnD by yourself. Revolutionary at the time.
2) Never got past the first few levels. I hated the leveling system
3) Still Playing on Ds
4) Finished on the super nintendo, the ps1 and the ds. It's a fantastic game with a beautiful story.
5) Good Class system and NO LOVE STORY - High Marks just for that.
6) My favorite of the series and I have never beaten it. Probably the best overall, though I might have some bias.
7) A good game that was as revolutionary as 4 was at the time (Super Nintendo/ Playstation Is HIGHLY overrated but still a good game
8) A fantastic game which I never finished, but I do love the ending. It appeals to my idealistic conception of love: That there is someone waiting for you.
9) A wonderful game with a wonderful love story. The recombining of the party with "You're Not Alone" in the background is one of the most tear jerking moments of any game ever.
10)Good game, Fantastic combat system and a twist... To save the one he loves, Tidus must die.
10-2) No comment, it's too complicated.
FFonline - I played for four years and made some great friends but I just couldn't keep up anymore.
12) Got Bored, but my mother seems to love it. She's got like 400 hours of playtime so far.

The problem with final fantasy though, is that games outside of the series just TRASH most of them in quality, even if we try to limit western rpgs as much as possible

List of 10 Best (in my opinion with final grade where a 5 is average) RPGs in order
1) Suikoden 2 10/10
2) Chrono Trigger 10/10 (tie)
3) Xenosaga Three:Thus Spake Zarathustra 9.5/10
4) Final Fantasy VI 9.3/10
5) Morrowind Elder Scrolls 3 7/10 (Omit this it's just an honorable mention: western)
6) Skies of Arcadia - Gamecube Version 9.3/10
7) Suikoden V - 8.7/10
8) Final Fantasy IX 9/10
9) Xenosaga Two: Above Good and Evil
10)Tales of Vesperia 8.9/10(or perhaps another from the tales series, but I'm really liking vesperia.

Star Ocean Three would have taken the tenth spot if the second part of the game wasn't so ******* weird. Phil of mind 101 brains in vats.
I decided to omit srpgs from the list

Final Fantasy X-2: It didn't need a sequel, they got rid of everything good about FFX, it didn't make sense, all it was was scantilly clad girl running around slapping things, and that got old after an hour or so.

Mostly agreed. It was a pretty bad game in all, not to mention a bad Final Fantasy game.

Final Fantasy X: To be honest, I kind of liked this one because of the battle system and sphere grid...until I reached the end. I want to find the person responsible for the following two things: First, whose goddman idea was it to force Auto-life on your party in the last battle? I actually triedto dispell it...didn't work. @#%^ you game designers, @#%^ you. Second, who the hell decided that Ultima and Omega weapon needed to be turned into joke monsters?

Uh...maybe the last battle is there as more of a plot device? Who cares if you Auto-Life. Still an EXCELLENT game.

Final Fantasy 4: They're lucky I made it past the unneccesarily long intro. They're lucky I didn't stop playing after the ship sank...they're lucky I didn't stop playing after they turned my awesome Leader into a pussified Paladin...they're lucky I didn't stop playing when I realized that it took an hour to train up one level. They're just plain lucky that I didn't just stop and sell the game before i beat it. I can't think of a game I'd rather play less than this one.

Yea. Lets have the Warrior of Light be evil.

Final Fantasy 12: This is not a Final Fantasy game, IMHO, real-time combat has no place in a Final Fantasy game(outside of Adventure, but that one was done right as it was about as good as a Legend of Zelda game). If 13 doesn't bring back everything good about the FF series, I'm not even going to bother trying newer SquareEnix games anymore.

Its a final fantasy game. Not a great one, but not the worst.

Final Fantasy 11: disappointed I gave it a shot, it was terrible.

I lol'd

Final Fantasy 1: Putting tips about where to go and what to do into the game would have been nice...just sayin'.

Yea, because there were so many previous games for them to experiment with. Give them a break. It was their first game.

The worst Final Fantasy game is 8. Hands down. Story sucked. Characters sucked. Battle system sucked. Everything flat out sucked.

And if it hadn't been a success, it would have been their last. (It's not called Final Fantasy cause the name flowed)

And it was a success. It was a great innovative game when it was released. You can't go back and criticize them for not putting more direction in a game that had never been paralleled before. It was the first of its kind, it obviously wasn't perfect.

X-2 is the only one I've never played through all the way (just couldn't bring myself to do it).

VIII was crap. A powergamer's wet dream, but I got tired of running around blasting everything in sight with my limit breaks constantly. I couldn't really identify with the characters. Strange capitalization (SeeD), and apparently the letter "C" has been completely replaced by "K" in the FYUCHOOR! SeE? WhEn I WrItE LiKe ThIs iT ReAlLy PuLls YoU iN! FFX-2 had one of the worst stories. On the other hand, it has what is possibly the best battle system out of all the games, with the possible exception of Tactics. I still play it for fun occasionally, even if I do skip the cutscenes.

I'll get blasted for it here, but I hate hate hate FFXI. Square should stick to offline RPGs in the aftermath of it. At this point in time, I think they're out of their league. Interesting in the beginning, but years later it doesn't hold up at all.

However, my all-time least-favorite FF goes without a doubt to 8. Shoddy, deus-ex-machina ridden story (hey, we all happened to grow up together!), crap battles (you either drew magic or summoned GFs over and over), and plain old middle-child syndrome hurts this one too much in retrospect. I can't think of a good reason to play this over one of the other classic FFs.

The first RPG I ever played was FF4, so even though the story dragged on and the story was kind of a downer, not to mention totally ridiculous, it will always have a special place for me.

Now on to the Best ones.

FF7-great story, good characters, nice side-quests... just a little esoteric in the middle, but all in all a good game... I don't think that they would have made like 5 other pieces of media/ video games surrounding the FF7 mythos if it hadn't been great.

FF6-Loved the story, til the world ended, but i was also young and totally into anything Final Fantasy after I beat FF4, so my opinion is biased.

Tactics-Not a JRPG, but a great game nonetheless, I liked the job system, but the story was hard to follow and kind of retarded.

FFXI- Not as a Final Fantasy game, but as an MMO. It doesn't take skill, just time and a good guild. Has an in depth crafting system, great job system, great story....but it takes WAY WAY WAY too much time to do anything, but it's a great game if you have the time.

FF9- FF4 with better graphics, better characters, wierder story and is just plain fun.

FFX- Liked the story and the game play, characters were well developed albeit annoying at times, but the ending did suck.

Worst FF Games

Mystic Quest- lame story, lame gameplay, short and repetative
FF8- I actually liked it, but it's too short and the story is lame...
FFX-2- Job change system and battle system were amazing, everything else sucked horribly.
FFXII- Was new and fresh in the beginning, but when you don't ever directly control anything that ever happens in batlle, the freshness wears off REALLY fast (seriously you can auto level yourself from 35-99 over night without touching anything because of how automated you can make your characters)

Never really played any others long enough to come up with an opinion for them.
