Need Some HelpFollow

#1 Dec 16 2008 at 3:40 PM Rating: Decent
I'm getting ready to go back to the world of MMORPG, been away for a while, and was wondering which way to go. I played the original EQ for about five years. Wandered through EQII, LotR online, Vanguard and then settled into WoW for a few years. How are these doing now? I know all the WoW propoganda, but is it any better now, than a year ago? Are there any new 800 lb. gorillas that have taken over? Any of the older ones I mentioned, gotten their acts together and become great games?
Always played the tank, or hybrid of. And enjoyed MA most of the time.
Like end game content and raiding.
PvE not PvP.
Any help is much appriciated.

LotR online has just brought out an expansion, but I don't play it so I don't know if it's any good.
WotLK just came out for WoW, and that has plenty to keep a gamer occupied for months.
If you're looking for something new, you could give Age of Conan a try (It has boobs!)

You should try EVE. It's quite amazing.

Only play Age of Conan if you don't like playing with other people. Me and my brother bought the first week it came out. We stopped playing a couple months ago.

It has gotten VERY quiet. Very, very quiet. Funcom listened to the player base too much. The changes they implemented during various fixes were drastic, extreme, knee jerk responses to official forum whining.

The game was fun, and maybe it's better now, but it definitely wasn't ready when it was first released.

StarSonata is what I played before I moved to WoW a month ago, it held my attention for more than a year before I had a small fallout with the admins and quit.
It really is an amazing game with an amazing community, because of its small playerbase. It is good because combat takes proper skill, not just a click and attack and click on various powers like WoW and similair games. Every press of the buttons matters in avoiding enemy shots and popping tweaks at just the right moment.
It is free to start for the first 20 levels so well worth giving a shot, although be aware it is going under a serious stat rebalance and graphical upgrade at some point in the near future.
Or you could always follow the crowd and join WoW like me.

WoW, Lotro, and WAR are the top Western MMOs at the moment.

To know whether you'd like what they have become I'd have to know what you disliked about them before, or what you enjoy in general for an MMO.
