I'm thinking about giving LOTRO a second chance. I played it originally and thought it was alright but the combat seemed kind of crappy imo. I didn't really like how you click an ability and wait for it to happen and how you could queue abilities by clicking several. If I'm playing a melee class it just feels weird that when I click an attack it doesn't happen for several seconds later. Is the combat still that way or has it changed at all?

Another thing that kind of pushed me away originally were the classes. The game seems to be limited in classes and they all seem very similar (melee tank or dps). It feels kind of weird having an mmorpg with different classes than most traditonal games (Warrior, Mage, Priest, and Thief/rogue type characters). It kind of annoys me how their isn't any mana using classes.

I tried the Champion and Guardian classes as well as the hunter class and none of them really appealed to me. Do things change a lot when you get higher level? I only got to like level 14. Which class do you recommend me trying that I might like more? (I don't have MoM so can't play either new class).

Any info/help is much appreciated!

- Well, the combat system is *sort of * still like that... Although I don't know what you mean about the queuing abilities. You click one ability and it will go, if you click another that one will be selected. Basically, the reason it does that is because there is an auto-attack timer, and if you don't click the ability at the exact right time, it takes a bit of time to fire.
You're probably coming from WoW? In that game the abilities seem instant, but they aren't, they wait for the auto-attack too. Combat has been really improved since the game launched.

- The classes are all very great and all have a use and are all unique. What's the difference between using mana and using power? And a lot of classes have their own "mana". Champions and hunters have their little pips, Guardians have reactive chain skills, wardens have gambits, etc. Get what I'm saying? Those things are sort of the "mana" of classes, and make the classes more interactive tham most MMO's.

- Things change SOOOOOOO much at higher level. I can't begin to express how much things change higher up. For example, the Captain class dosen't really come into its own until the mid-upper thirties. As for which class to play, that really depends.
- Guardian: Standard tank, reactive skill chains.
- Champion: AoE damage, Tanking, Pips
- Hunter: Single target DPS, Foucs, summoning.
- Captain: Buffer, off-tank, healer, hybrid class
- Minstrel: Healer, shields, medium armor, ballads
- Warden: Tank, medium armor & shields, Gambits
- Rune-Keeper: Sort of your "mage" class, but can heal.
- Burglar: Debuffer and your "rogue" class

Granted that is a very, very limited description. You should browse around the internet more to see which class would suit you.

You should really, really, really give LoTRo another try. The game's lore is amazing. There are so many things to do - crafting, deeds, gearing, PvMP, Raiding, exploration, basically whatever you could think of. This game is very horizontal, not vertical like other games. My advice: pick a class you like, stick with it to 25-30. At that point if you still don't like the game then you'll know that it just isn't for you.

Good luck!

Great post. Thanks for the input. I'm going to use my 10-day buddy key and give the game another try. I think I'll go with a Hobbit burglar this time or maybe a minstrel.
