So I got one for Christmas, and I have a few questions.

One, which is not meant to be inflammatory but probably will be, is it always this loud? Compared to the PS3 it is like dull roar. However, I love it, I'm glad I have both consoles.

I downloaded the demo for Blue Dragon and that has been fun, I think I got the one for Tales of Vesperia too and I'm excited to try that one out. Does anyone have any suggestions for other good RPGs? I think Fable 2 will be at the top of my list.

The optical drive is loud. You should install any game you are currently playing (if you have a big enough HDD). Takes about 10-12 minutes, and it is better for your ears and system :)

It's less noticable when I'm watching DVD though, and I don't know why. Maybe it's just cause with DVDs I have the TV louder.

I have Mass Effect for the PC and loved that, might have to check Fallout 3 although I can do that on the PS3 too. I'm very surprised the PS3 hasn't had too many good RPG's, I think I'm going to get Valkyrie Chronicles for it next. I was hoping to find some older 360 games such as Blue Dragon for cheap, I think they sell it here locally for $17 used.

Blue Dragon - 14.99 @ Amazon.com

Eternal Sonata - 17.75 @ Amazon.com

That's the cheapest ones. Too bad you weren't looking a couple weeks ago, there were more under 20, that are now up to 35 again.

Fallout 3 is definetly the top RPG for 360 if you've already played Mass Effect.

Fable 2 is good. Not the most spectacular game...but its alright.

Oblivion is garbage.
Haven't played any of the JRPGs for 360 (none of them have really stood out to me...I've thought of picking up Eternal Sonata but haven't yet).

As far as non-RPGs:
Bioshock
Halo 3
Dead Space
Gears of War 1+2
Prince of Persia
Assassin's Creed (not excellent, but still a solid game).

Are all excellent for both single player and multiplayer (where applicable).

Both Rock Bands, Left 4 Dead, and Castle Crashers (Xbox Live Arcade) make excellent multiplayer/party games.

If you've never played Banjo-Kazooie, I highly urge you to check that out on Xbox Live Arcade.

if you dont have fallout 3 yet, but were just planning on getting it on the ps3, i would suggest the 360 or pc versions, i dont think the ps3 versions is getting the DLC.

at least, not that ive seen yet.

Does installing the game do anything aside from making the system more quiet?

It helped with making it quiet, but I can still hear the cooling fan in there. It's still quite a bit louder than the PS3.

I'll add Fallout 3 to the list for the 360 then, unless I hear the same is coming to the PS3.

It does load faster. For games like The Last Remnant it removes most if not all of the loading related slowdowns of the battle system.

It helped loading times for the entire time I played Mass Effect, right after installing. When I fired it up a few days later, loading times seemed to be about the same as off the disc. I would guess that since your drive isn't spinning, it's saving wear and tear on that.

I've found that installing the game to the drive keeps the system a bit cooler during long play sessions. Since overheating is the main thing that causes a 360 to RROD, it's a good idea to do it.

I have my receipt tucked in the warranty tucked in the box in a safe place in my storage room. They have the 3 year warranty on the RROD still, I wanted to make sure that I knew where everything was just in case Smiley: smile However, as a parent with 2 kids, a wife, and school, long play sessions aren't really possible anymore Smiley: frown

Get Call of Duty and Fable 2. Must haves, CoD for the online wonders and Fable 2 for the shear comedy of it.

I'm getting Fallout 3, looks mint.

PM me with Gamertag if you decided to get CoD.

It's very similar. Personally it didn't hold my interest very long. It wasn't nearly as open as I had wished.

The online portion of it was laughable. You can see "Orbs" that represent other players when you play online, and you can trade with them... but other than that interaction is minimal. You exist on the same map, but your enemies and their enemies are exclusive to your game. You cannot see what they are fighting, and vice versa. You just see a random orb floating around the map.

It's not a bad game... but it's nothing spectacular. I don't think the graphics had much of an update either, very similar models, etc. (I play on a 720p HD TV).

i read in the GT5 thread you liked GT4, you might give Forza a try if you are looking for a new racing sim.

I've played that game a lot, and its been out so long now you can get the newest edition for pretty cheap. I think it comes with extra cars too.

I'm sick of shooters. CoD 4 had an enjoyable story line, but I like a good old fashioned turn based RPG. Seems those are going the way of the dinosaur though in favor of button mashing. I got Infinite Undiscovery and it's ok, but I like to be able to control all of the characters.

On the plus side, a co-worker brought in a mint condition PC version of FFVII, I might just install that and play that tonight Smiley: thumbsup

you might want to grab the one fan patch, i heard that with teh base game theres a bug that makes you not be able to get past the chocobo race.

and while its not an rpg, it is turn based, theres worms on xbox live arcade, and its only 400 points.

Fallout 3 may not be for you then, but I happen to love it (after only playing for a few hours). It's like Oblivion, but done right. And it has guns. And a flaming sword, among other things.

Loving Blue Dragon, it's exactly what I was looking for. Also picked up Eternal Sonata for cheap but haven't tried it yet.

If you like blue dragon then I can't see how you could go wrong with lost odyssey.

On another note, I'm not even sure if I can classify fallout 3 as an rpg; it's just as much shooter as it is rpg, if not more. If you're sick of shooters then just stick to the jrpgs.

Lost Odyssey was going to be my next one along with Fable 2.

I absolutly loved Lost Odyssey if you are into the turnbased JRPG's, nothing new game wise, but nice story and solid gameplay. Better then the last 2 FF's, imo ofc :P (ex-square employees made it, and it shows)

Eternal Sonata is a bit short and the characters and the story is a bit to kiddy for my personal taste, but if you love Blue Dragon, go for it.

Fable 2 gets a resounding "meh" from me, i think its WAY to light on content, not enough sidequests,(i dont count repeatable quests), a very short story and its way to easy (gameplay, fights and such).

I loved Mass Effect and Fallout 3. Although Fallout 3 is also lacks a bit of content imo, short main story, only a dozen side quests.
Fallout 3 isnt a shooter, 80% of the time youll shoot turn based (VATS) and for the rest you can just stand still and punch the fire button. Its way less of a "shooter" then Oblivion, due to VATS. BTW, i hated Oblivion.
The game has an atmosphere you havent seen in a game before, well unless you played fallout 1 & 2 :P
