I am currently looking for a mmorpg game to play and the official site hasn't helped me to learn how EVE plays. Is this game played mostly like real time stragety game? Do you spend your time in ships only? Do you ever get to see your character walk around? Is combat done in ships only? What fun things are there to do? With FF11 you can play on dial up without much worries. Is it the same or not with EVE? Can anyone help me with more information about this game?

Ships only. What is fun is dependent upon the individual player. You can mine, run missions, or PvP. I don't know if it's playable on dial up, but I would assume not. Especially for PvP.

i would say any mmo these days would be extremely difficult to play on a dial up connection, hate to say it but if you intend to play online games then you really will have to get yourself a broadband connection, never mind the latency issues with dial-up which would cripple your gameplay anyway, there is also the degree of patching from initial installation etc, you'd have to download too!

eve online has often been compared to iain m banks culture, which is a bit like saying that lewis carrols novels were comparable to world of warcraft ;D
it is though a fairly open ended, player driven environment, rife with piracy, corporate and freelance mining, trade and espionage, and lots of people with heavily armed spaceships :D
all playing on the same server... most days you log on your going to see at least 40k people online, and graphically it looks stunning... if any game was worth getting broadband in order to play it, then eve is that game :D

I myself am new to Eve, and a veteran of FFXI (since Nov 3rd 2003). I've been having a tough time trying to find where the game is supposed to be fun myself, unless you're seriously into PvP. The storylines are lacking, and the combat is just not satisfying. If you would be into this game, I would suggest a couple of older games, both of which can be played just fine on a dial-up connection. Freelancer is a lot like Eve, but much more clean and streamlined, with a better storyline, and Descent: Freespace 2 is just plain fun space combat with a superior storyline, and hands-on combat.
