I love my Xbox 360. I really do. The failure rate, however... Smiley: motz
My first one quit working with a bad DVD drive. It was under warranty, so I sent it in for repairs. That was maybe six months ago, give or take.
The last couple of days, this Xbox 360 has been acting a little flaky. Tonight I tried to play the demo for Operation Darkness and it locked up. I rebooted my Xbox and got a little further into the demo, but it locked up again. Rebooted it again, and it locked up on the opening splash. One more reboot and BAM! Red ring of death. Smiley: frown
Now it seems my warranty has expired. Buggah.
I've seen these repair kits in the past, like http://www.fixya360.com/the_kit.html and http://xbox360redlightfix.com/?hop=idaffsk
I was curious as to if anyone has ever used one of these and how it worked out for you.

Edit: Really, I looked into it, and it's apparently still under warranty just for the RRoD. But it takes freaking months to get it fixed and returned. FUX!
Seriously though, I'd still like feedback if anyone has ever used any of those "fix it yourself" guides.

I have no experience with this, but I am of the opinion that you should just send it in ASAP so you can get it back ASAP. Do it now before all those ones people got for xmas break and get sent back Smiley: tongue.

Actually, it only takes about 4-6 weeks to get the XBox back.

I tucked the receipt for mine with the box for when I need to send it back. I wanted to hold out for one of the new ones with the smaller chipset but it will be a while before we see them here.

only takes 4-6 weeks?

4-6 weeks is an awefully long time for a gamer to go without his console.

Better than the "months" Usagi mentions. Besides, I know Usagi has other consoles, as do I.

and from what my friends have said 4-6 weeks is a conservative estimate on their part. Both got theirs back within a month, want to say 3 weeks.

If its the RROD the warrenty was extended just for that problem. You should at the very least contact Xbox about it.

Friend of mine was able to fix his and he is not very handy with that sort of stuff so it can't be too hard. He found a guild on google that gave step by step instructions on what to do.

Truth. A co-worker received an email saying his was on the way back, hasn't been but 3 weeks since he sent it out.
