If anyone played this on PS1, they should know it's a fun RPG. SE made a fine remake that I played a bit before realizing I had actually stolen the wrong game. Having already deleted the game off my PC and PSP, the little bit of time I spent playing it (before I realized it was a new PSP remake and not the original Second Story PSX game), convinced me that I'm definitely going to go out and buy it.

Seriously good game that is easy to spend 100 hours or more on. The coliseum (where most of the games leveling up time is spent) is worthy of hours some incredibly difficult battles.

Metacritics combined score as of now is 76. Gamespot review (middle of the road of the bunch).

I hope this post in some way makes up for my accidental theft of a game I didn't know existed.

What's this about stealing and theft? Did you rob a game store at gunpoint or something?

I was downloading (or so I thought) a game that is no longer in production. I have no qualms downloading a prehistoric game console title->PS2 generation games. If I can't purchase the game new, there's no way the company will get any sort of money for the title, so yeah, I have no problem aquiring it, even if it's still intellectual property.

I didn't realize there was a remake (or I wouldn't have tried to download the PS1 game, much less the PSP reincarnation). Basically, if I had known there was a remake on the market, I simply would have purchased it. Somehow, while trying to download the PS1 original, I downloaded the new (read: released this month) PSP edition.

This has killed these games for me. People tell me they're awesome games, but I just can't stand not being able to micromanage my team. I'll gladly trade in all the action RPGs in the world for a return to turn based RPGs.

My question is how does this new PSP version compare with the original?

Significantly better, complete redub of the original. A general improvement in all categories really.

Will it play decently on a PSP1000? I tried briefly to play First Departure on my PSP and it seemed slow on the world map. Luckily, I've got a translated version of the SFC ROM.

Bah, I can't afford a PSP, but I loved Star Ocean and no longer have the ps1 discs. Conundrums! Food, or a PSP?
