good leveling class??Follow

hello! I played lotro two summers ago for the entire summer, but i sucked so bad that i never got past lvl 8 or 9, i believe :D

I've recently reactivated my account, and am downloading the game right now. I don't have moria, and i don't even know if moria adds any new classes, or not. Either way, since i am so bad at leveling, and for right now my first goal is just to get to level 50 as quick as possible (i've never played games for exploring or the fun, cool content--i think the actual fighting or playing part is the fun part, and in wow (im a pretty good wow player haha) i power level to 60/70/80 and THEN do all of the fun stuff like battlegrounds, so on and so forth.

Either way, in world of warcraft, the "leveling" class is quite commonly known as hunters or warlocks, more hunters than locks, though. I really couldn't care less about what type of class it is--it doesn't matter to me whether or not it deals damage, tanks, heals, or casts or whatever. I just want to play the game and have good leveling skills.

I do NOT like leveling in parties--i generally try to solo as much as i can, i'll do a group quest here and there, but even that is pretty rare.

So yeah, sorry for the long post, i tend to do that :D Basically i'm just looking for a class that is good at solo leveling. Once i get a level 50 i'll probably make a new character with the intent of actually playing the end game raids. Or, who knows? I may end up liking this first level 50 character and end up doing all of my end game raids with him!!

Thanks so much for your patience and help, guys and girls! and again, so sorry for the long, boring, rambling post! :P

From my experience, all classes are good at solo leveling. Any class can solo from 1-60. Some classes, however, are going to be easier to do it on than others (if you're just starting).

I'd suggest trying a Champion, Guardian, or Captain. They're the three heavy armour classes in the game, and therefore have some of the best survivability.

Hunter levels pretty quickly, and the ports make travel nice. DF can keep you alive, but some quests are very tough solo with a hunter.

Champion levels very quickly and can take a pretty good beating. I was able to solo alot of group quests on my champ once they went light blue.

Guardian kills mobs slower than champ, but is tougher for mobs to kill. The Overpower stance does make killing quicker.

The Warden is an excellent solo class.

Those are the classes I have the most experience with. From quickest to slowest I'd rank them:
1. Champion
2. Warden(levels at about the same speed as champ, but is a little more difficult class to play.)
3. Hunter
4. Guardian

Unfortunately, with your mindset I don't think LOTRO is the game for you.

The game is not about racing to the level cap... it's about following in the footsteps of the original fellowship (from the books) and experiencing the world they were in. It is as they say "the journey, not the destination" that is important here.

And since you don't like the journey & only care about arriving as fast as you can, you should (IMHO) stick to WoW... from everything you've said, I believe it is exactly the right place for you...

I agree with the above - all of them.

The Champion is probably your best choice as it will give you heavy armour which gives good survivability, and does great damage which helps you go through MOBs.

However, as the poster above me said, this game is not about racing to the highest level. If you want to be PvP, then just create a "Creep" character and play that (it starts at level 50).

The experience your character gets comes about (i'm guessing) 70% from completing quests. For example - you get a quest to kill 14 mobs, which give 200 experience each (that's 2,800 exp) and the quest completion will give you 4,000 experience. If you played "all summer" and only made it up to level 8-9, you probably just did the WOW-Farm tactic where you just killed mobs until you leveled up. Doing that won't even get you out of the newbie instance, since you have to do the quests to get out. Doing those quests will get you from level 1-6 in about 2 hours.

FWIW, I did meet a player in game who was level 42 (a hunter) from WOW who hadn't done more than 20 quests (just some of the intro quests) and had gone all the way to level 42 just by grinding. IMO that is a very boaring way to play a game with as rich a story as LOTRO. It's kind of like buying a novel and then only looking at the pictures.
