So I'm looking to join another 4e campaign. My first outing was as ta paladin tank; while I enjoyed hanging out with friends, the actual playing was very fun. I took hits for the party, but it felt more like the DM was giving them to me than my character presenting a real reason to be attacked. The taunt move is crap. Additionally I wasn't really a tank, because even with the maximum armor available to me the ranger still had nearly as much armor, because D&D still thinks it is a good idea to let lighter armor use dex/int bonuses. Hide armor has the exact same defensive boost--with far fewer penalties--as full plate on a well stated ranger. But enough with the complaining.

I'm looking into making a striker this time around. The core books will be matieriels avaiable. I will also be using the given 22 point buy.

Suggested builds? Right now I'm considering swapping battle axes to longsword on the ranger, a decrease from 1d10 to 1d8, but a proficiency increase from 2 to 3. I can also spend a feat to upgrade to ******* swords with +3 prof and 1d10 damage.

Ignorable scratch work below
Twin strike does 1W (Rng) and Piecring Strike does 1W+Dex.
2d10+2+1d6 and 1d4+5+2d8 or 1d6+5+2d8 which comes to an average of 16 and 16.5.

Encounter powers:
2d10+2+10+1d6 and 2d4+5+2+2d8 or 2d6+5+2+2d8.
Avg 26.5 and 21 or 23.

Daily powers:
4d10+2+10+1d6 and 3d4+5+2d8 or 3d6+5+2d8.
Avg 37.5 and 21.5 or 24.5.
