SWG = forced PVEFollow

#1 May 02 2009 at 11:24 AM Rating: Decent
It takes too long to find PvP in SWG right now. I'm sick of looking at Restuss. I don't blame the spies. PVP wasn't very good before GU7. Spies have been brought up to par IMO and don't need any more nerf, although the stun on reveal was much agreeable that it need to go, especially for counter spies
which has now become an extremely rewarding role to play.

but PvP is just a sideshow to the main PvE experience in SWG. where forced PvE is prevalent, where you are forced to PvE in order to compete against opposing faction players.

I'm going to play the World war 2 online battlegrond europe MMOFPS for a while where PvP is the center element of the game, the rewards come from strictly PvP enviorments, and with virtually no PvE being forced on PvPers.

I think SWG is now great for the niche of ppl who like to PvE mainly, but hardcore PvPers have been left in the cold and feel caged out of the game as we have been like some kind of freaks who have to go play against each other in some obscure corner of the galaxy.

Just look at the Restuss comm rewards now, they are obsolete at 1000dps when we're now at the standard of like 1200. The hardcore PvEers demand that every thing be available to them through PvE, or that they're PvE rewards always stay more powerful than the PvP rewards. And NO rewards for PvP can be greater than the precious PvE rewards. This is the crowd to what developement seems to cater to.

This game is not bad, but for the player who wants mainly a PvP experience it just doesn't deliver an epic feel like other games can which are centered around PvP. Also for the player who wants a mainly PvP experience he is forced to PvE in order to compete on the PvP field.

SWG players talk about things like "skill" but they are mainly refering to,without even knowing, how much network you've obtained to help you gain rewards through PvE the neccessities that dominate the PvP field. This is somewhat of a bassackwards approach to design- the rewards from PvPing is what should dominate the neccessities of a player battlefield, not the rewards from heroics, collections, farming for RE, and what not. You should NOT have to PvE hardcore after level 90 to compete on a PvP battlefield.

As a spy I am not as gear/buff oriented as other PvP classes but it is still not fair for those non-spy classes to be dragged through mundane PvE (in many a PvPers mind any form of PvE is mundane compared to the challenge of a living opponent) events in order to obtain the gear to survive on a player battlefield. If hardcore PvE wasnt such a neccessity for non-spy PvP I would probably play a much more stylish class like smuggler.

what SWG really needs is a focus on galactic wide PvP, spread accross all planets not just certain areas.

The funnest thing about SWG to some are the iconic player fights in areas like mos eisley cantina, but there is no incentive for PvPing there, so there are few opponents outside of the "corale".

many players would like to see galactic wide point rewards for PvPing
outside of the reward/tick zones, we aren't even asking for uber gear rewards. just the incentive to roam a galaxy that actually seems at war, instead of caged out of the game as we have been

and YES you CAN have my stuff. Just let me know what vendor to drop it off at... current non-vlacyn or non-wanderhome residents need not apply.

Newsflash, SWG has always been PVE focused, PvP has always been secondary.

True, in a poll of existing players - several months ago now, if not a year :D
the consensus was that most of the players (over 70 percent i think), preferred to pve rather than pvp, if, as seems likely, this was taken on board, and the devs have concentrated more on the pve aspects, then its just that they were listening to their playerbase, although don't quote me on that because its probably something of a 'first'... either way, the main focus of the game, imo, at least, has always been pve, though i do agree that pvp has not been handled all that well, nothing new there though, i've said before that if they handled pvp in a more controlled fashion, aka, a certain other games battlegrounds, then perhaps the whole pvp thing would become more enjoyable, it certainly isnt when pvp'ing is relegated to, roaming gangs looking to gank anyone who looks doable. ironic i guess, considering it was a certain 'other game' that inspired the nge in the first place ;D

I get the impression that you are very much enjoying the PvP aspect of Spy, and want to be able to obtain all of the games high level rewards via PvP.

You would also like to see PvP outside of Restuss, although in my experience, PvP outside of PvP zones just ends up with a Spy waiting until you are busy with something then macro'ing you to death in a second.

A friend of mine told me recently he felt that he had become "spyified", apparently this is the term used when a player finds it difficult to play any other class, due to the unique advantages of stealth in PvP.

Many players enjoy the high level PvE instances, I'm not sure which server you play on, but if you are having trouble finding groups perhaps you could post on the server forum on the official boards, find the server Heroics chat channel or use the player search tool to form your own groups.

I hope that helps.

I know this will never be popular although I have never been able to understand why but I am still convinced that the best thing this game could do is implement the same PvP system as WoW.

You have:
- High end rewards where you can equip yourself with gear that is as good if not better than the PvE gear.

- Multi-world PvP which would help the smaller servers in this game immeasurably as you wouldn't have trouble finding a fight.

- Rankings and titles based solely on PvP.

It is a self contained system with one flaw, it is not "open" PvP it is instanced.

I am a huge fan of taking the best from every game available regardless of what that game is yet the minute you mention WoW in SWG people start foaming at the mouth.

amazing how people get so upset when you mention WOW, but i do agree on that, as a more 'structured' pvp experience, and rewards, would probably appeal to a great many players who hadnt been interested in pvp before, and if they also include ranking tables, or maybe something like the killboards of eve online, then that would be yet another incentive... wouldnt it?

Having my bounty hunter owned by several spies in "stealth" mode over the past few weeks i have determined that I HATE SPIES!!! LOL...kidding...one of my peeps is actually a spy, but low level and i rarely play him. Regardless, i appreciate everyone enjoying PVP and PVE. And it is tough for lower level players to be involved in any "random" pvp experiences. (thinking of the galaxy at war idea) And SOE has offered us the new Battlefields for PVP action, and i think they are great. The only concern i have about what i hear regarding PVP vs. PVE is when it comes to the rewards, or loot, whatever. You should NOT be able to get better gear in one versus the other. I hope SOE always keeps the idea of gear, buffs, loot, rewards, whatever that have an effect on your combat ability relatively equal between the PVP and PVE gameplay. I would be afraid that if the only way to get great weapons, armor, buffs, loot, etc was to do one or the other. Many times the result of this is a massive discrepancy between the same level 90 Smugglers, Jedi, or whatever, assuming all other things are equal. (i.e. their playing experience, combat proficiency, etc). And there is room in this game for both play styles. The game is huge! Lots of room for everyone. While the rewards can and should be different to identify the individual's acheivements, they also have to be equal in terms of their effect on a player's combat bonuses.
