Joining a corporationFollow

#1 May 16 2009 at 6:12 PM Rating: Decent
Hello all, apart from having a group behind you and a gruop to do missions with, what other benifits are there from joining a corp. Do I get access to their skill books or do they pay me isk or what? Everyone says its much more fun but whats the real bonus about being in a corp?

It's all corp dependent, but I have access to corp hangars and corp funds. As long as I don't do anything stupid, I'll have that as long as I'm in the corp. You also get the benefit of corp standings with other factions.

The most common reason is access to 0.0 for either industry or pvp (usually both).

I have an alt corp that I use for being able to put POSs up in empire for production (I have a medium production pos in a 0.6 and a large reactor pos in a 0.3).

My main character is in an elite pvp corp that lives on 0.0. We do a lot of pvp together and when there's no pvp to be had we carebear together in plexes and such.

I still maintain that eve is in tutorial mode until you join an 0.0 corp and stop relying on concord to protect you all the time.

Yeh but atm I got about 7m isk and im floating around in a comorant or whatever its called lol. I'm still on the trial aswell so I dont dare venture into anything below 0.5 as I learnt my leasson the first time I did that. I'm going to get a 3 month game card for now but I dont know whats my next ship to buy. I'm thinking buy a retriever so I can do a few days of mining and ill get back the money I invested in the retriever then maybe buy another ship. I want something that can handle itself alittle bit and something thats good to join a corp with. Any suggestions?

If you want to join a corp for pvp, I suggest you train into an interceptor. They're cheap, quick to skill into and every skill you train for them helps you with every ship you'll fly after that.

I realize it's the standard "get into a tackler" deal that people hear so much when starting out. But it's the truth and I'm not telling you to tackle in some crappy T1 frigate.

I'd say over half the time I'm either in an interceptor or interdictor when I pvp. They're a lot of fun.

I dont think I understand what you mean, in the market I searched for interceptor but its not a ship or anything. At the moment im trying to just get my weapon stats up so I can use bigger and better weapons. I think my next ship might be a cruiser. In pvp do you just go into a mode where its you and someone else or is pvp what you mean when you get into a fight in 0.4 or below which usally means 10 on 1 lol.

PvP can be 1 on 1, or 100 on 100 and any combination thereof. An Interceptor is a type of ship, not the name of the ship.

Interceptors are Tech 2 frigates. They specialize in going very very fast and tackling other ships so they can't warp away. It doesn't take much to get an ares to do 4.5km/s. Don't expect to do much damage in these ships though. That's not what they are there for. They will teach you when to warp out and come back in and how to survive in a fight. You could try tackling using the T1 hulls from the below mentioned ships but don't expect to live much. They're significantly slower and easier to shoot at.

Gallente: Ares, Taranis
Caldari: Raptor, Crow
Minmatar: Stiletto, Claw
Amarr: Crusader, Malediction

My personal preference is the Ares with a targeting range rig fitted. It makes it a bit more expensive but with interceptors 5 I can lock out to 42km and overload my point to tackle out to 36km.

There's a lot of different kinds of pvp. Factional warfare, solo, small group and fleet. I've participated in several 300 vs. 300 and larger fights. Usually it's smaller group stuff though that corporations will do when they roam around jumping from system to system. Gate camps are insanely boring.

So range is good obviously but I always thought aslong as you have a ship that can take alot of damage then you would be quite safe. I had one of those interceptors fly alongside me last night bumping into me while trying to mine lol. He said give me 2million isk and ill leave ya alone rofl. Can they hold powerful weapons because the bigger weapons are made for cruisers and obove.

If you're in 0.5 sec or higher and he bumps you so much that you're not able to mine at all, that's petitionable as harassment. You have no recourse to make him stop within the game mechanics. If you shoot him to make him bugger off, you'll just get concorded.

Different ships perform different roles. You might be mostly safe in empire, but there's no truly safe ship once you hit low sec and null sec. Especially null sec.

I tend to favour the smaller ships. Frigate and cruiser sized. Battelships are slow and plodding and you don't just pvp in capitals on a whim.

used to be you could mine into a jetcan, but these days, what with ore thieves and can tippers, its just not worth it - it does happen in 0.0, but thats only because mining gangs usually have dps support... lots of it.. along with the odd indy or 3.. but if your going to mine in high sec, then use cargo expanders and dock/unload each time you have a cargo load, just be sure to bookmark your mining spot so you can warp back without too much hassle... there are lots of corps in 0.0 that need miners though i will say now, certain alliances do tend to prey on the 'niaive' and lure players out in order to gank them .. most people have heard of a certain 'swarm of goons' who seem to think that kind of thing is fun...
