Although im new to the game i am a 5 year vet of MMOs and was just wanting some good advice on a starting class and server. any input would be great!! Now if only i had a better connection to download the game update faster :(

Whatever you decide, don't be a champion. They are going to be phased out when the next expansion comes out.

i've learned to enjoy the champion class.
my first choice might be the hunter, though. the main reason for this is, you get to travel around a lot, and learn the lay of the lands. Eg, some players I met had never been to some towns before, except after getting the self-port to that area.
the other reason is, as the hunter gains in levels, and other characters become part of your repertoire, the hunter is a great AH character, as he can go around to the zones to level up, as well as return to town easily to set up AH listings.
