While the OP's logic is interesting, it's far from a true reason as to why RB > GH. Definitely something I'll be looking more into. At first glance it seems like any band, local or otherwise, has the option to upload their songs which would be great exposure for them and a more-than-welcome change of pace for those who are getting sick of seeing the same songs starting to become available regardless which version or game you own.
Personally I'm a bigger fan of RB simply because of the song options available both on the disk and as downloadable content. The track packs and band-specific (Metallica, Aerosmith, etc.) aren't too impressive for either. Once I discovered I could import songs from RB1 to RB2 for $5, RB got a lot better.
Did prereserve GH5 though. Extremely disappointed. Poor track list for the first few stages makes it a huge chore to play through and unlock things. I feel bad for those who can't or refuse to import songs from Guitar Hero: World Tour and/or Smash Hits. If GH5 is any indication of what the future of GH has in store then it's on a downhill spiral, imho. IMO, GH seems to care more about making "sequels" and selling a pile of crap regurgitated under a different name (polish a **** all you want it's still going to be a **** when you're done).
Rock Band, however, has delayed a release of Rock Band 3 so that it could provide more quality songs for DLC instead of rushing and doing a half-@$$ed sequel:
Quote:
To add Rock Band 3 to the holiday lineup would mean that
Harmonix would probably have to outsource its development, and we don’t want that. What we’re more likely to see is incremental upgrades to Rock Band 2.
Rather than attempt to build a library of songs for a disc sequel,
Harmonix can concentrate on just churning out top-quality content for its download store. And as we saw last year with the addition of the Music Store to the original Rock Band, big feature upgrades are also a possibility.

Meh, but this is just my opinion for what it's worth. Both games are quite popular and equally enjoyable especially with multiple people available to play. Both are very popular amongst the fraternities, sororities, and just campus in general around here. :)
