After reading Slashdot and downloading Penumbra for $5 (it was cheap so I figured what the hell), I remembered how much I ******* love this genre. For nostalgia's sake, I'm currently torrenting King's Quest. I think I'm going to go on a binge, so are there any other good adventure games you guys would recommend?

If you like the Quest series, I find Quest for Glory to be the best of the lot. It was originally supposed to be Hero's Quest, but trademark issues forced them to change it.

I've finished 1, 4 and 5, and watched a let's play of 2 and 3. I suggest you play them in order and export your character each time (even if the graphics are outdated).

I always liked the Kings Quest, Space Quest, and leasure suit larry games. There was another OLD OLD one sierra made a long time ago called Gold Rush that I bet we played the crap out of. Problem with trying to play Gold Rush now is the crack breaks the game (well at least one of them does). Certain parts of the game are timed and if the timers don't work you just can't go anywhere. Without the crack you have to look up a word in paragraph X between page 1 and 93ish, which is bullcrap but that's 1980's copy protection for you. Anyways the game played like the old Kings/Space quest games where you had to type in everything you did. It involved a dude who got a letter from his brother about the Gold Rush. You could pick 1 of 3 ways to get there and once you got there you had to find your brother through clues he left you. Really amazing game for its time.

Anyways there are also a couple of fan made games out there. There is a completed remake of Kings Quest 1 and 2 by some people who call themselves Tierra Entertainment. They basically updated the game to play like Kings quest 5, 6, Space Quest 4,5,6 did with a similar engine. The Kings Quest 2 remake is actually pretty amazing and I highly recommend playing it (they are free and legal).

There is also a Kings Quest 9 being made once again by a fan company. I have my doubts as they all ready said they are only going to release a half finished game basically.

Was a fan made Space Quest 7 in the works but Vivendi sent them a nasty gram telling them to stop and apparently they did.

I don't have any of the urls but a quick google search will undoubtedly find them.

Unlike my pal Allegory, I liked Oblivion. Oh and Adventure for the Atari. Those dragons ******* love those goddamned keys.

The Adventure Genre is one of my favorites, srsly loev pixelhunts and pointnclick. Conversation trees make me wet. Pretty much any Sierra game with "Quest" in the title is worth playing. If you haven't played a Monkey Island game, you need to set yourself on fire right now because you don't deserve to live anymore.

I love the Sam and Max series, but their puzzle solutions are often times nonsense, and require randomly combining inventory items, but the stories, characters, and everything else about the series is amazing.

Full Throttle was awesome, Grim Fandango, and The Longest Journey are good too. Those should be some other ones to check out if you've never played them.

You should go look at GameTap, and look at their subscription plans, you could probably get a freebie somewhere, and quit in a week when your binge is over. They had a lot of adventure games there, IIRC.

Also, jayisgames.com is a gaming blog that is sponsored by some game companies or something, but they often have deals on adventure games, among others.

Little Big Adventuree 1 & 2 (Otherwise known as Relentless and Twinsen's Oddysey) is a wonderfully bizarre action/adventuree game. It's probably the only good thing to come out of France in the last few decades.

The Monkey Island series, Day of the Tentacle and Simon the Sorceror all deserve mentions. I only played the 3D Broken Sword game, but that was fine - apart from the flash action scenes. Those were just ******* pointless as hell. Oh, and Grim Fandango was pretty amazing, although I lost my save at the boat and never played through the first part to reach it again out of frustration - although I really should, as I've forgotten a lot of it now.

Holy ****, I haven't thought about those games in forever.

Those are really good games, but they're platformey, and not really an adventure game in the style that Sweetums is looking for. I think she's aiming more for the point and click adventure games, than the action adventure games. LBA was more Zelda like than King's Quest.

But holy ****... Little Big Adventures. Wow... I might actually go hunt that game down and remember just how frustrating it was, and how satisfying it was to finish.

I've never played the Sam and Max games, but always have wanted to. Maybe later I'll torrent them or something.
