Oh and in all honesty I've been in the mood for a good MMO lately too but unfortunately there are none out there..yet.
I quit WoW long long ago and don't intend to ever go back to it (as many often do but I have yet to and highly doubt I ever will) because I'm sorry but WoW is a ****** game. It's only plus is that it has a large player base that for some odd reason can't seem to quit the game (I had no trouble doing so myself) but personally almost every other MMO I have played I found to be better than WoW so it completely baffles me as to why WoW is still so damn popular.
I started AoC up at release, was extremely fun and something new with a cool concept for about the first 2-3 months..than the game got kind of slow and for some strange reason 80% of the player base left and went back to WoW (ugh) or went on to try WAR. This ruined AoC, leaving it with only 2 active guilds on my server so I moved on to try WAR as well.
WAR I had a great time with, however, even though the recommended specs for the game weren't that high, and my PC surpassed them greatly, I had a lot of FPS issues with it. I think it was mainly the game's fault. Somehow I got really busy around that time though so I only ended up playing WAR for 1 month or maybe even less...then I never went back to it again.
I then didn't play, or miss, MMO's for almost a year, I'd say 10 months..
..Until about 2 months ago I actually Started up EQOA again, which I couldn't even believe myself doing hahaha damn it was just a impulse decision made by me and my friend and we began playing EQOA all over again...and it was extremely nostalgic and entertaining and well worth my time especially given the boon (4X the XP increase) ...and we would have continued to play EQOA actually willingly if it wasn't for the server being completely and utterly dead. We were playing on Ferran's Hope and on the Test Server a bit as well...and we could not find one other person to group with. Now EQOA is fun, even with 2 people, but you really need a group of 4 to enjoy the game...and after 1 month of playing we were unable to even find ONE group of 4 to play with together (would have only required 2 more people than us and it was still impossible) so we gave up on EQOA once again =/
Then I spent some time searching for an MMO to play that wouldn't suck, and after a bit of research I decided on Lineage 2 (as I already owned the game just haven't played it since 2005) and I started that up again for 1 month. To my surprise it still had a large player base and plenty of people to talk and group with so I enjoyed myself. Lineage 2 is a decent game. But I got over it in a months worth of time and had to travel a lot anyways so that was that.
And now, now I am here with high hopes for the following two MMO's: Aion, and Mortal Online.
I have spent much time researching both games and I just got done preordering both of them online actually so that I can get the extra benefits (because I knew I would buy the game anyways upon release). I have already played Aion on the Chinese Servers and it was a great amount of fun, I do believe that game will be very successful because it is drawing a huge audience, it seems to appeal to both WOW Players as well as Asian-Style (Lineage, Final Fantasy, Guild Wars) consumers.
However, I don't think Aion will be as fun and as new of an experience as Mortal Online. Aion will be more popular, because Mortal Online is more of a game for a "niche" crowd or group of players, but damn do I fit well into that "niche" and I can thank EQOA partly for that. So I would recommend checking out both games, because I'm not sure which one I will like more, but I plan on playing both. (And I think I'll enjoy Mortal Online more)
The only game coming out this year that I plan on playing and know will be better than both Aion and Mortal Online happens to not be an MMO, but will be one of the best games ever as it's predecessor was...Left 4 Dead 2 hehehe. Nov.17, can't wait! :)
Hope I was some help Dark, and good to see you again!
