Anyone have any suggestions for a couple cheap games for it?

I know I'll be getting:
FFX
FFXII
Evergrace
Capcom vs SNK 2

Anyone have any favorites that they'd suggest?

Kingdom Hearts 1
Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories
Kingdom Hearts 2

I think all those are all in the Greatest Hits bin now.

Edit:
Ok, so RE: Chain of Memories isn't. It's a remake of the GBA game Chain of Memories, with some bonus material. I haven't played it on the PS2, but I'm sure it's better because of the ability to have actual cutscenes.

Okami

Kingdom Hearts 1-2

Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter (Ignore all the haters. It's a really good game if you don't try and compare it to all the other BoF games.)

Unfortunately, I have had a previous experience with Dragon Quarter, and I think it's the most pointlessly brutal game to ever have been released.

I did like Breath of Fire 3 and 4 though.

I cannot recommend Dragon Quarter.

And unless you like watching movies instead of playing games, I can't recommend Xenosaga either.

I ended up getting:
FFX
Virtua Fighhter 4
Resident Evil 4
and Maximo

I'll give it a few weeks, so I can get a good chunk into 'em/beaten before I go out and buy some more.
I'm thinking Shadow of the Colossus and Kingdom Hearts 2. And maybe Final Fantasy XII.

Definitely SotC, skip FFXII. Also get MGS 2&3, Ace Combat 4 and the Onimusha Series.

and the Onimusha Series.

While I really loved the first Onimusha, I can't recommend it to someone who's strapped for cash (unless it comes really cheap). The only issue I had with the game - aside from not being able to use the analog stick - was that it's much too short. Even playing all of the way through the demon realm several times I found myself wanting more. (I suppose that if you wanted to extend it, you could level a different weapon each time, thereby changing your playstyle significantly.) Onimusha 2/3 I can't speak for because I never played completely through them.

Yeah, um, no one can give a meaningful recomendation without knowing what you like. What do you like?

This would be a problem if God of War, the poster child for action games, was not 6 hours long.

Not that I liked God of War, I'm just sayin' that lots of people do, and it's still very short.

For what hasn't been said yet:

Devil May Cry 1 and 3. 2 is skippable.

Sly 1-3

Ratchet and Clank 1-3

Jak 1-3

Katamari Damashi

I've always been a fan of the DOA series.

There are 2 sets, and I enjoyed them.

.hack 1-4 and .hack//gu 1-3.

I still haven't played GU 2 & 3 because I never seem able to find the 2nd game when I have cash. And when I don't it is all over the f'en place.

Game play is a simulated online game, that gets a virus that causes the real world people to go all loopy and die.
Has 3 or 4 anime series for it, and some OVAs.

God of War also had a variety of difficulties and weapons/magic one could play with, which gave it rather more replay value than a game like Onimusha really has. Which is still kind of irrelevant, because saying "Game A is popular and it's short!" has nothing to do with how much time someone's going to be able to enjoy Game B. You kind of came out of nowhere with that one.

Eh, I think FFXII is worth a play to at least see if you like it. I liked it for the most part. Especially since it's pretty cheap now.

I'd also recommend Star Ocean 3, and even though I haven't played them yet, the first two Disgaea games if you can find them. I've got the third for the PS3, and it's freaking awesome.

I've played the first .hack game, and I really liked it but I was never able to find the other three games. It made me sad.

Reiterating some things said here:

-KH 1&2 (1 has a better story, but 2 has better gameplay)
-Resident Evil 4
-FFX (I would vote for skipping FFXII unless you really want to play all the FF games. Its story is easily the worst of the past 10 years. However, its gameplay is some of the best, IMO... or at least it moves quicker (no swirly screen load-ins).
-I really enjoyed Persona 3 FES, for its extremely long playtime (easy to get up to 60 hours even without exploring all the options, and then there' replay mode, and the second game on the disc) and very good story. However, the dungeon aspect can be boring.
-For Star Ocean, I enjoyed Til the End of Time, but could never beat it. About halfway through I always get bored and stop; this has happened three times now.
-GTA games are pretty fun.
-Edit: .hack was interesting, but in the end it made very annoyed that they marketed it as several games, forcing you to spend $150 for a game that should have been 5 discs, not 5 games with a disc a piece. I played one of them (the first) and that was all.

Why? It took me a whole 30 minutes to realize the game sucked. Luckily it was purchased used, so I didn't lose too much when I traded it back in.

I agree with skipping FFXII unless you just have to play all FF games.
It took me about 12hrs from start to finish to get through the story, a crappy story at that.
There is much more to do then 12hrs of play, but once I saw the credits I couldn't get myself to replay it again.

I only read the wikipedia entry, but it sounds like the exact same type of game as Persona 3. Keep in mine Persona 3 also took about 30-40 minutes to get to any action (and that's just to scripted fight); and about an hour from the start until you get to actually explore the dungeon.

It sounds like the battle system is somewhat better than Persona 3. If you liked that game, you'll probably like Persona 4. I'm planning on getting it, as I really enjoyed Persona 3.

I remember playing Evergrace, in fact I think that was the first game I got my PS2 back when they were still $300.

Ehh really most of the memorable games have been listed. I suppose Final Fantasy X-2 although it was fairly cheesy. If you want to count PS1 games there is Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy 7,8,9, The old Resident Evil games (especially Resident Evil 2 IMO), Parasite Eve, etc.

If you want to play a good survivor-horror style game I suggest getting Extermination, it's like a mix between RE and The Thing (the film not the crappy game).
