I've recently rediscovered the awesome classic first person shooter and all it's glory. Shortly after I discovered there is a really cool map editor I can use to make my very own levels!

I've used a Doom map editor several years ago and it was just too complicated and made too much work out of creating levels and I quickly lost interest. This new one though is much more user friendly and apparently it's used in computer classes for children in China:

Quote:
Elementary school students from grades 4, 5, and 6 of a public international school in Shanghai have been learning how to make maps for Doom using Doom Builder for nearly two semesters. These students, ranging in age from 9 to 13 years old, are used to playing first-person shooters, but were surprised to find that they themselves could create their own world within such a game.

So I figured, if they can make maps using this program, so can I! I had a bit of trouble at first, and still do at times with complicated functions, but I'm getting the hang of it. The tutorials on the website help a lot.

I might have to check this out. I used to have some level idea back in the day but never felt like dorking around with the available .wad editors at the time.

I actually did this in 1995. I based custom made Duke Nukem 3D levels look like the school. It was pretty ppopular alot of people would come in to see it.. Have to remember in 1995 a person who could run a computer was deemed gifted.

I was always proud of it though.
