It seems that the Aion team is experiencing some very bad latency issues. That said, I did not experience ANY lag until about 6pm CDT yesterday. Also, the devs apparently identified the cause and resolved it in less than a few hours. I am very impressed.
Lets remember that this was the first day of Open Beta. Some fine tuning is to be expected and encouraged, so lets not beat up on the devs, ok?

Unsure about the Lag but I suspect that there were not viable server caps installed.. I imagine they got a very large surprise on day one when the servers red lined - reckon they had lower expectations than realized, heh heh. They imposed open beta limits rather quickly (day one) so the assumption may be more than a guess..
All the DC log's related to nProtect's Game Guard and not the game itself. Seems like it was having problems doing multiple threads and every other one was a dll exception error within Game Guard, which may have been a gotcha on the way to a multi-thread attempt. Very happy to see that myself - tells me the game is solid - nice feeling when about 10 days from release.
Lag has dropped off V E R Y much. I am seeing (on day 3) a minor lag spurt maybe once every few hours. It is at least survivable if in combat - not like about hour 8 onwards on opening day.
Overall very pleased.

I get a 3-5 second drop in connection every ~2 minutes, and have for the last 4 days, though it was much worse the first day.
