Class choice thoughts...Follow

Hey Alla peeps,

Hard to find an updated guide for lotro >.> sorry to post something I felt I should have been able to find on my own. So anyways here it is...

Wife & I are about to join the Middle Earth population! I'm looking forward to it. So I have been looking over classes and the such to pick out what I'm going to start out with. I have found out that my wife probably will want to play an elf minstrel. Now I know any class combo will likely work, but the two I'm looking at for game play reasons are; warden & champion.

I can see champion dealing a ton of damage and getting the support of a minstrel will be the icing on the cake. The melee and dual wield game play is right up my ally, but the warden looks very nice also. Polearms have always been a RPG vice for me. Plus from reading it looks challenging, sort of reminds me of when I played a nin/war tank in FFXI. Plus having a healer / tank duo combo may assist in forming fellowships for dungeons and group objectives.

Question;

1) Do wardens even come close to champions with DPS?

2) Are warden tanks pretty populated, making it just as easy to fill in group members starting with a DPS & Healing class? (will join Arkenstone server)

3a) Just looking for feed back; what class would complement a Minstrel well?
3b) Lore-Master well?

4) Also, any other good websites to research for LORTO info?

Thanks in advance all!

Heya!

I just joined the ranks myself, 2 days ago! After a lot of reading, I decided on a champion and so far, I haven't been disappointed. I cant answer all of your questions, but I thought I'd voice an opinion on a few things jsut the same ;p

I play on the Landroval server. The only class I've seen more of than any other is the hunter, but it's still fairly well balanced. In other words, don't worry about whether the class you choose is popular, over played, etc. There seems to be room for everyone.

You didn't mention what server you;d be on. Find one yet? If you decide on Landroval, get in touch with me Greywicke). Im only L16, and most of the people I'm in a kinship (guild) with are 50+.

I'll also be following this thread, hoping for more answers to the questions you posed :)

Thx for the feedback =)

As far as server goes, I'll be joining my brother (whom also just joined) on Arkenstone. I'm guessing as long as they have this $10 deal with advertisement of the Mirk Wood expansion the population will be getting bigger by the day. That's gotta make guessing what class is over played pretty tough, if not impossible lol.

I'm leaning more toward Warden, but I'll probably roll one of each to toy with =)

I'll take a jab at some of your questions...

1. Do wardens even come close to champions with DPS?

I believe Wardens can hit respectable single target dps, but when it comes to AoE, a Champion will blow it out of the water.

2) Are warden tanks pretty populated, making it just as easy to fill in group members starting with a DPS & Healing class? (will join Arkenstone server)

Warden tanks aren't too common but it really depends on the server. I think they tank fine in normal situations (I think people still debate this, but I wouldn't pay to much attention to them...) Tanks (Guard/Warden/Champ) and healers (Minstrel, RK) are always needed, so I wouldn't worry about that...now if you're a hunter...good luck.

3a) Just looking for feed back; what class would complement a Minstrel well?
3b) Lore-Master well?

I know Champions and Hunters complement a Minstrel well; it really depends on the play style.

As a Lore-master, I love duo-ing with a Champion or even a Captain.

Tanks (Guard/Warden/Champ)

Ahhh... ok, this helps. I didn't know champions were also tanks. I'll be running with 2 groups. One with just me & the wife along with one group with my wife, brother and myself. I'll go with a champ & warden and enjoy both classes along with giving our groups a tank if needed.

Thx =)

Champions aren't "supposed" to be tanks, but they are able to fulfill the role without too much trouble.
