I am sure there have been threads like this before but why not another? Anyways what do you think the hardest game ever is?

Some candidates I can think of are:

Bayou Billy NES
Ghost and Goblins (any of them)
Battletoads NES
Dr Jeckal Mr Hyde NES

The original, first, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game was the hardest one I owned.

No joke... The 1st Zelda game on the Game Boy, Links Awakening?
I was stuck on the 2nd or 3rd Dungeon (for around a year or so..it started to get sad) because I didn't know I had to move a simple block out of the way.
The only reason I finally beat this game was I popped it into a Super Game Boy on the SNES and was able to re-color blocks. The movable block changed colors (old GB colors ftl) and I could continue.

This is the only game I can think of that gave me so much trouble.

See, we could talk about two things here.

We could talk about the hardest game, or we could talk about the hardest danmaku. If we aren't specifically talking about danmaku, it's kind of cheating to even mention one.

At one point I was really good at that Turtles game. The Damn isn't bad once you learn the path at one point I could get through it every time. The technodrome was terrible though. Had these orange guys in spacesuits that would take 2 blocks of health away from you. Final boss could 1 shot you with his ray (turn you into a normal turtle).

I'd say Battletoads and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

I have to admit it was rough but it wasn't that bad.

The two games for NES (still the system with the most challenging games by far) I never managed to beat were Zelda 2: Link and Guardian Legend.

oh yea...
Zelda II.
As said in another thread, I forget this game was made and is out there.

I must have played the first two levels of Ninja Gaiden a thousand times. Then one day, while my family was all having fun with real life, I got to (what I thought) was the last boss, and I died.

I beat it a decade later with the help of emulators and save states.

My brother and I rented Battletoads like 20 times before we finally beat it. That game was a good 6+ months of my video game life when I was a youngster.

Zelda II (NES)
Gradius (NES)
Fire Emblem Gaiden (NES)
Ghosts 'n Goblins (NES)

For any Zelda fan, beating Zelda II is an accomplishment considering the super-easy difficulty of the newer Zelda games.

E for everyone, means EVERYONE in Nintendo's eyes.
If a 5yr old can't beat the game, then it is to hard.

I've never played fire emblem gaiden, but I can't imagine it being harder than Radiant Dawn. Those @#%^ers knew it to; without the battle save I doubt that I would have bothered finishing it, and I've never needed a battle save for any other fire emblem.

I really wish they'd release 2-6 here.

I doubt that a five year old could beat most zeldas anyway, and it wouldn't be easy for them if they could

I was 6 when I beat Link to the Past, and it was hard as hell for me. I was about 7 when I did zelda II, and I got past the 8th dungeon, but never did beat it.

There's the rom for it that I played it on. The English translation is horrible though, and the battle cut-scenes and statue text are left untranslated. I haven't played Radiant Dawn but I've seen some mentions of it from you before of how hard it is. Fire Emblem Gaiden is like Sacred Stones in that you have an overworld map so there are areas you can go to as often as you like to level up. The game is extremely slow but I suppose the emulator can speed it up. It's slow enough that I had been in a battle that won't finish for the whole night.
