1999 - Hand-held game and music players require AA batteries and game consoles are self sufficient.

2009 - Hand-held devices have rechargeable power packs and consoles require AA batteries.

Is anyone else a little weirded out by this?

Controllers don't count! The good ones don't require batteries anyway.

Nope, the PS3 just requires you leave your console on all the time to charge the damn controllers, or forces you to buy some extra stand to hook them on.

I like the fact that the Wii and 360 offer the option of using AA's if you don't feel like buying equipment to charge them. However, I do have a charging stand for the Wii and one charging pack for the 360.

I hate that. Why couldn't they have just made rechargeable controllers that plug into the system like the PS3's? Sony did it right. No stupid batteries, and no need to buy anything else, it eve comes with the cable, no extra purchases at all.

I do. The day after my birthday, having left the controller connected overnight to the powered down but still showing the idle light PS3, disconnected the single (how generous of Sony to not include a second cable or to include cables with controllers you purchase...). I pressed the little PS3 controller button, and was told my battery was still low...

...

So my first day playing inFamous, it was done sitting inches from my very large television.

By the way, why the hell is the writing in Sacred 2 so Goddamn small?!?!

Edit:

You didn't realize that when the PS3 is in standby it doesn't charge controllers? Where have you been?

Unless you buy another controller, then you need to buy the cable Smiley: rolleyes

I'll admit, having a default charging system would be best, but I did enjoy being able to use both my Wii and my Xbox 360 the same day I hooked them up without having to sit 2 inches from a big-screen TV.

Yeah, trying to charge the controller with it on standby was your bad. >:D

The charge time : play time ratio is pretty damn good imo. I really don't spend much any time at all charging the controller. I just wish they made the cord twice as long.

Are you playing on a standard definition TV? I have this problem with mgs4, even though it does scale down. When I play it on my friend's HDTV's the text is easily readable.

Having the controller plugged in while the ps3 is updating it's software the first time, and getting the game set up the first time, should be all the time that's needed.

And include one with new controllers. I stole a cord from a multi-card reader.

As for longer cords, check this.

Yea, we bought a huge one when we first moved in, and a few months down the line the hype about HD started...

So it's a standard def, and no plans to replace it (mainly because moving it would be near to impossible due to the sheer weight). I did some adjustments to the PS3 but it's still very tiny.

Anyone not a complete dunce would have rechargeable AA's from the GBC days anyway, just waiting resuse.

Or rechargable AA's from using the wavebird.

Really there's no reason not to have a cheap pack of rechargeable batteries

Takes about an hour to charge. You can also charge it while playing. I probably charge mine once every 2 weeks and I use my ps3 almost every day. Way better than AA batteries.

Why does the PS3 controller require you to sit 3 feet away from the TV while the controller is plugged in?

I've only ever played my brothers PS3, but why should he have to buy a longer cable? The included cable is quite simply, ridiculously short.

Because the cord they give you should be fine for the average person.

be thankful they even give you a cord, and dont make you buy a crappy $30 charger pack like the 360, and those batteries are just crap too, mines pretty much a wired controller right now.

I suppose. I had one of those also when I had my 360. At least the cord on that was around six feet.

Seriously though, I grew up playing NES. I'm beyond used to playing with a corded controller. It's actually a bit odd playing with the wireless variety, not to mention being paranoid and keeping your controller plugged in simply so it didn't go dead while in the midst of some fight I couldn't afford to pause the game.

If that happens, the game will pause by itself and ask you to plug-in the controller before you can resume play.

PS3 controller gives you a low battery warning well ahead of it actually dieing. So you won't have to be paranoid. :p
