We are bringing the servers down at 6:00AM PST (more), September 25th, for maintenance. The purpose of this downtime is to tweak the way Private Stores work. A timer of 30 minutes will be implemented to prevent these shops from being abused as a means to prevent disconnection and alleviate queues.

The maintenance is expected to run no longer than 1 hour.

Thank you for your patience!

omg that is so wrong-headed. If you limit it to 30 minutes then private stores have NO purpose and should be removed. Broker slots should be increased to compensate, and DP needs to persist between login sessions. Death should be the only way to lose your DP.

I'll admit 30 minutes is too short but I noticed this problem the first day of early access. The first time I logged in I was on for less than an hour and noticed at least 10 different private sellers with "not selling, just AFK" in their chat bubble, or some variation of that message. Before I logged out Tuesday night I noticed at least three of them in the main courtyard of the trade area alone.

With hour+ queues, I'm not surprised in the least that it's being abused. I just hope they have the common sense to readjust the timer in a few weeks once everything has calmed down a bit.

Look at it this way, Tuesday was a weekday so their are a lot of people who couldn't log in due to weekly time constraints. People who were waiting on word of mouth or reviews probably grabbed the game and will be logging in this weekend. People who didn't shell out the extra $20 for next day shipping (myself included) won't be logging in until this weekend and the random people who saw it sitting on store shelves and just grabbed it probably won't be logging in until this weekend. If they didn't make this change I could easily see 2-3+ hour queue times during prime time Friday and Saturday night.

400,000+ preorders plus all the people who grabbed the game this week with only 12 servers, I can see 50,000 people slamming into each server this weekend. I doubt WoW even boasts those kinds of numbers per server.

We had an argument discussion on general about this. I think if aion went with a system more like FFXI has with the minimal bazaars and set a time limit for bazaars in the capitals then it would drive the players out to the fortress/citadel to run their bazaars/stores. I counted 10+ players selling a single junk item in Pandaemonium last night for 200 million, and their message was went to sleep, will be back later. The argument is that its a Korean game and this is how they all are, just deal with it or cancel. I can recall one game that did not have the private shops right off the top of my head and that was RF Online, nobody complained there.

I can't help to think how much of this is related to secondary accounts and those players just setting up a toon on the opposing side to lock them out of their capital. Personally I have yet to have a queue issue going into pandaemonium (knocks on wood), but it is probably only a matter of time.

Personally (and bludwyng we talked about this in the ZAM legion chat), I think they should do away with the private stores all together. Double the capacity of the broker, and just run with that. One of the biggest reasons I joined Aion was because the graphics were amazing, especially in Pandaemonium. I didn't pay 60 bucks for the CE version just to login to a endless sea of "Best prices around, please check it" and "sucky sucky 5$" (yes I saw that store last night).

Thats my Smiley: twocents lol.

Having played EQ and its bazaar for several years, I have a very strong dislike for personal stores. Other than avoiding the broker fees, I can't see a single advantage to them. Still trying to figure out why they implemented two different systems to begin with. They also should have specified areas for the sellers since as things stand now, everyone is just jamming up the entrance to the bank, trade center and city entrance.

or maybe establish vendor-free zones, where the Guards will escort you to the hoosegow if you trespass. :) And all NPCs should have a 10' no-store zone around them.

I think if they want to leave the stores in then there should be specific areas where store can be placed. Additionally have restrictions so stores cannot be placed within 10m of any npc. I would much rather see them do away with the stores all together and unlock the brokers for unlimited auctions like WoW does (to my knowledge I have never head an auction cap in WoW).

I wholeheartedly agree. I've gotten used to, if I need something, I dig through the broker for it. Going private store to private store seems more tedious than what it could be worth.

If they are really set on having both a broker and a private seller, they should do it the way EQ2 has it setup. Allow sellers in specific areas but list their items on the broker with the location of the seller. The buyer then has the options of purchasing from the broker for a small fee or going to the sellers location and buying directly from them.

The Private Sellers really seem to clutter up most places. That is unfortunate because Aion has nice graphics.
