I haven't played a Kingdom Hearts game since the original about 5 or 6 years ago. My memory is more than a little foggy, so I really had no idea what was going on story-wise in this new game.

I have been told that I must play KH2 in order to know who all the characters are, but as of today I seem to have a grasp on what is going on so far.

The gameplay is almost identical to what I can remember of the original KH, only there is no Donald Duck or Goofy. You play as Roxas, as opposed to Sora. Roxas is somehow connected to Sora though. (I am currently on Day 75, I suppose I will find out more later.) The panel system so far is very interesting and flexible. Its kind of a combination of the materia system in FF7 and the sphere grid of FFX-- only completely and totally different in every way Smiley: um

The story plays out like Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, being that everything is mission based, and the key elements of the story occur during those missions. Aside from that, it feels very much like reading a book.

It feels almost as if you ARE Roxas, and the day to day jobs and missions are the actual days of your life. It is a very strange feeling that I have never gotten from any game before...

For a Nintendo DS game, it has amazing graphics and sound, which includes a surprising amount of voice acting.

It started out kind of slow with the tutorials, but overall I am very impressed so far.

I've done 40min of the game. I really need to sit down and play it.

It would help.

The idea way to play them would be KH > KH: CoM (the GBA game, or the remake for ps2) > KH2 > 358/2.

The GBA/remake game sets up the story for KH2 (well, the Intro in KH2 is the GBA game. . .).

I'm only a few hours in but I'm enjoying it so far. I only really have two complaints.

1 - The camera control is bad. REALLY bad. By default you have to spin it with the touch screen, which is at best a pain, and at worst impossible if you're in the middle of attacking stuff.

A very short way into the game you get the ability to change the controls so L/R spins the camera. However, doing that makes your shortcuts, lock on, and camera centering more complicated and while set like that the camera spins really slowly.

Overall, the bad camera isn't game breaking, but it is VERY annoying.

2 - Do they really have to spend so much time eating ice cream on the roof? There's seriously nothing else they could be doing instead occasionally?

Roxas is a Nobody copy of Sora. Basically all the black robed people are clones of the originals with an "X" added to anagram names to mark them as copies.

Been playing it on and off for about a week now. I really can't seem to get into it. Pick it up for a mission, finish it, set it down. Repeat later after I'm done playing any of the other games.

I don't mind the default camera controls too much. I don't spin the camera that much, instead I just turn around and hit the button to reset the camera to the direction I'm facing.

So far though, I liked Chain of Memories much more than 358/2 days. This game just seems too restrictive. I like being able to move around, do things other than take on a mission. This game borrowed some of the bad aspects of the numerous Atlus games out there where you have a single home location and you go out on battles, come back, etc.

I love the Kingdom Hearts story, so I'm forcing myself to play this one to see it. The battling just doesn't seem fluid for me, Kingdom Hearts 2 was awesome as far as gameplay went. Unfortunately they didn't translate these controls well to the DS.

The whole panel system is just a modified card system from Chain of Memories. You still need magic panels to use magic, Ether "items" (panels) restore your magic panels. The only difference now is you don't need cards to use basic attacks (which is a good change). And skill/level panels. Instead of chaining attack cards to use skill combos, you combine panels for bonuses.

I am kind of disappointed that they didn't get a new song, and just used the same one for KH2. Of course we already knew this because the Japanese release was back in May or so, but it's still disappointing. I hope Birth by Sleep gets a new song (I'm sure it will).

There doesn't seem to be any hidden bonus to having the Chain of Memories GBA game in your DS while playing 358/2 Days.

With Final Fantasy Tactics A2, if you had Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced in your DS, you got a special clan privilege which let you see traps. It made a couple earlier missions a lot easier, and you could do them before getting the job that gave you the ability to see traps. (The missions required triggering all the traps on the battle field).

I was a little bummed about there not being any bonus. It was a neat little feature for game series. I hope Golden Sun DS has some bonus for having the Golden Sun 1 and 2 cartridges.

I feel like I might be the only person that can't seem to get into the whole Kingdom Hearts series. I think it has to do with every commercial I've ever seen for it always showing @#%^ing Sephiroth.

I've yet to see Sephiroth or any other FF character in this game so far, and I'm about halfway through Smiley: frown

For what it's worth he's always been kinda the last Bonus Boss in the series rather than anyone of importance.

Oh and he's voiced by Lance Bass in the first one, which I found to be hilarious.

Should still give the games a try. He in in the games, but not of major importance (he might be a semi-boss in KH2 when Cloud is in your party, don't remember).

I've beaten all the games (cept 358/2, I'm on day... i dunno. Just followed Pete around) at 100%.
I just saw the Birth By Sleep ending for the Japanese ending of Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix.

So epic, I can only hope that is the end, or near end of Birth By Sleep game.

I liked the first two games for the PS2, but I got rather irritated when they ended KH2 in a fashion where they ending seemed nicely wrapped up, and then they made it obvious they were going to make more games. It seems like Disney and Squeenix are just trying to milk the series for all it's worth and it ruined the series for me.

Really? Because I hated the fact that like a half of org 13 are dead before you even start KH2, and you're expected to know the exact and intricate story of castle oblivion to understand anything without reading about it afterwards.

Horrible story plan. Like, I was seeing the marluxia fight at the beginning and was like, holy **** when do I get to fight that guy? Never fight him. Halfway through KH2 "oh yeah you did that already; it was a memory."

Yea, some see KH2 and think it is the 2nd game to be played.
But it is the 3rd/Last at the moment (358/2 takes place between KH1, CoM, and right there before KH2).

Bold:

o.O

Milk it?
The series is 2 games, with 2 filler games.

It is clear in the 1st game, the Universe is large and Sora isn't the 1st or only one to do what he has been gifted with.

And that's just confusing that they release an inbetween game on a different system from the first one, then release KH2, and then release a prequel to KH2 again on the DS. I actually have a DS now, so I could play the games if I really wanted to, but I've really lost interest in the series.

Just saw a commercial for this, and I gotta say the graphics look pretty bad for what I've seen in DS games nowadays. Maybe the commercial just made it look worse? =/

I would really like a third game with party members of riku and kairi. Donald and goofy are fine sure, but it would be nice to have more party members that can actually go to other worlds.

Same. It looks like in Birth By Sleep (game that takes place 10 years before KH1)you play with no Disney people in your group (OR maybe you do, and we get to use "old"er Disney people).

They are pretty good for being on a DS. Game Play graphics and the Clips are different, with Clip's graphics being much better.

DS games always look better in 2D than 3D. But the fact that the gameplay footage is ballooned to 50x normal size to be displayed on the TV makes the graphics look worse. It actually has good 3D graphics for the DS.

DS tends to be better than the 64 and worse then the gcn in graphics department. Best looking game imo is metroid prime hunters.
