Those crazy Japanese will make an RPG out of anything.

The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road

Tomorrow I am going into town to see if any of the stores have this game in stock. Reviews say the graphics and music are well done. Some say that even though the gameplay is simple, it's fun.

The game came out last year in Japan, under the name "Riz-zoawd" Not quite sure how they came up with that name.

It's an anagram of Oz Wizard, so they can sell the game without being sued by whoever owns the original rights to the story.

I'm pretty sure the book story has been released for public domain use, so there wouldn't be any copyright issues to begin with.

It being an anagram is a better answer than I came up with; I kind of figured they just asked Snoop Dog to come up with it.

As for the game itself, I read the combat system is atrocious, which takes away from the game itself. Some sort of ratio system, where you get a set amount of points, and each character represents a number. Something like Dorothy and Scarecrow being 1, Lion being 2, and Tinman being 3, with a maximum of 4 per turn. The story might be amazing (after all, it is based off a classic), if the combat is as bad as I've read, it'll turn me away from it. Interesting enough to make me curious, but not enough for me to go out and get it without reading some real player reviews.

And possibly wait for it's price to be dropped.

Sounds similar to like... Chrono Cross or Septerra Core. So many points per turn, and different things cost a different amount of points.

Can't be any worse than the combat system in Cross Edge. That game gave me thumb cancer. Think about that. It had to travel via blue tooth into the controller and be absorbed through my skin from the D-Pad and buttons.

The Japanese cover are is so much cooler than the NA one. Though, that seems to be the case in most games. Why are they convinced we want things bland over here?!?!

I just bought the game.

While the cover is changed, the inside booklet is the original Japanese art work. Anime-esque Dorthy and all.

Blame the overbearing censors and parental watch groups.

Game play is definitely simplistic. Only played for a few battles today just to get a feel for it. Movement is controlled with a trackball on the touch screen. It's not as bad as you'd think. I'd prefer other methods, but it's not bad.

Battles so far are easy, nothing challenging at all. I really doubt to find any challenge.

The music is well done, graphics are ok, just like the reviews said.
