Let me first start by saying the game has amazing mechanics and great area designs, but NCsoft has lost my money.
In all MMO games there is one fundamental requirement for the game to be successful and that is the watchful eye of the GM's 24/7/365. This gives players a warm feeling of being able to report spammers and GM's will kick that account. It also strikes fear into those who's mentality shrinks to the age of 10 as soon as they login. In saying that NCsoft launched Aion knowing full well that they didn't have enough GM staff to handle 24 hour operations. I figured it was just a glitch and said well give them a week. A week went by, the chats degraded to the point of 6 year old kids yelling at each other (I would post examples, but I don't want the banhammer) and still I saw the same message "Petitions can not be created between 0200-1300".
One good note is the developers did add the ability to block via the right click menu and that did cut down on the spam from RMT's, but sadly if I was to block everyone who lost IQ points, well it would be really quiet in the game.
New MMO's always have "bleh" launches, but this one was incredibly sour. It was more sour than the FFXI launch when all the american players started screaming at Japanese players because they thought XI was their game and "we" let Japan join. I am back in SWG and checking out this new Chronicler System (which reminds me of CoH/V architect system). I am also working on getting my ace pilot status back so I can fly my Nova Courier :)

I had to stop myself from using a Shugo line.
But yeah, I pretty much play the game with zero chat, just like in WoW, I only switch to the Chat tab if I need to pug something, but I haven't had to since I joined a nice close-knit guild of friends. The issue is still there though, every time I create a new character, it's just RMT spam flying by, can't even read any actual chat, so unless NCsoft actually starts to DO something about this, I probably won't pay for the month after the free one.

The first time I logged in, it was unbearable. I didn't know about the right click block thing for a while, once I figured it out, it got a lot better. Typically it was only 2 or 3 spammers chain spamming, once those were blocked I got very little of it.
Some people are like slinkies, they aren't really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.
