DS and WiFiFollow

So, I want to hook my DS to use WiFi.

But unfortunately, the DS doesn't support WPA, only WEP. I tried looking into the quick USB adapters for setting up a little mini-network, but I can't find any place that still sells them, even the official Nintendo one isn't found anywhere.

Can anyone think of a solution that doesn't involve me changing my router setup? (I can, but don't really want to).

You need a crossover cable.

Or a Nintendo Wifi adapter, which also works for the Wii. But that costs money =/.

awesome. I'm so out of the loop on things.
I need one of these so I can get back into Online Mario Kart and Tetris Ds style!

Well, I just changed my router to WEP.

Not many people around me, so I should be fine. Plus, there is an unsecured WiFi point close to me, so if anyone really wanted to piggy back free wireless, they would hop onto that instead.

My router had no security whatsoever for years and years here, because my mother didn't know how and I didn't want to bother to learn how. Eventually I just figured it out anyway by fiddling with the router address, and set up basic WEP.

I doubt that anyone around here who bothers to leech wireless would know how to bypass wep. If they do, then I don't care that much. It still filters out all of the old people who don't even know how to access a router in the first place.

Speaking of which, I should check the GTS.

WEP is retardedly easy to break into. There's a ton of sites that offer point-and-click hacks for it, hence why the OP was so concerned. WPA isn't tons better, but it is much harder for the layman to break into, and therefore the better choice.

The best is to get right down to MAC address and IP filtering with a DMZ and a honeypot (fully open computer loaded to the brim with viruses just waiting for some 'tard to fall into it). Also naming your router something like "Virus Server" is a good way to creep out people. There's one nearby my work that does that.

You don't seem to understand.

When you'd had nothing at all for long time, it's sufficient. It would seriously depend on if your neighbors are all really, really old people. Mine are.

The nintendo usb thing should work though, for trith's needs, but I was never able to get mine to work, perhaps because someone else had used it already. I really don't know.

Something tells me connecting to your network would be a death sentence anyway, given the tech details in your posts...

And Pensive, I posted that not just for you, but for others reading it. Relying on WEP when literally a Google search away is a really easy way to crack it is foolish, especially if your ISP has those lovely download limits.

It's great if you live in a retirement home or nearby one, but my honest advice is to go WPA or go wired.
