So, I just learned about this game today. (About 10 minutes ago to be exact).

Epic Mickey

Concept art for the game by Fred Gambino and Gary Glover depicts a "surrealistically bizarre" look at Disney characters and locations in a steampunk environment.[3] Featured in the concept art are post-apocalyptic renditions of Goofy, Spaceship Earth, Epcot, and Cinderella Castle.

I love twisted views of childhood memories.

Goofy looks awesome. I have no idea how this will work out. According to the wiki article further in, it will be the lower cast of characters attempting to dethrone Mickey. It's pretty cool that Disney is willing to go out on a limb with their flagship character. Regardless of what audience the game is geared toward, it's nice that they're taking chances at reinventing their characters instead of simply cashing the same old checks year after year.

Not much of a limb, especially considering how much Disney fights, tooth and nail, to keep Mickey and the gang from becoming public domain properties. Basically, every time Disney's copyrights are almost up for public domain in the U.S., Disney puts millions of dollars into lobbying our government to change established federal laws for their benefit. Kind of a heel move in my opinion, considering Disney made most of its money through the use of public domain characters and stories itself.

Sorry, just not a huge fan of the company itself, even if they do release entertaining projects for us to enjoy. The game looks pretty good, at least from an aesthetic standpoint. Steampunk has always been an interesting artistic twist to old themes, and I'd like to see how that plays out.

Game Informer has a good article on it this month too. I'm particular interested by the inclusion of Mickey's "older brother" Oswald the Rabbit, and also how you can control the look of Mickey based on the actions you have him do. Reminds me a lot of Fable. I wish I had a Wii so I could play it when it comes out.

It sounds... different. Like a combination that wouldn't really work. I can't help but be reminded of the Kingdom Hearts series and how the concept sounded completely terrible, but worked out beautifully.

Maybe it'll be like cream cheese and bacon pizza: sounds disgusting, but tastes oh-so-artery-cloggingly-delicious.
