Elites and Exp GroupsFollow

I used to play LotRO a couple years ago and I'm considering coming back to the game. The main reasons I left in the first place were:

1. Elite mobs gave the same exp as an equivalent level solo mob (then what's the point in killing them?)
2. Most groups on my server (Elendilmir) would form for a quest and then dissolve when the quest was done (doesn't anybody group up to level anymore?)
3. Lack of mob variety. This boar is level 5! (20 levels later) And THIS boar is level 25! Ooooooo!

Can anyone tell me (especially the question about elite mob exp) if things have changed?

I'm unsure about elite mob xp since I don't do much instance grouping. Regarding your other two points,

People don't group for xp because most experience is gained through quest completion. Most people find grinding mobs (whether solo or in a group) as well... a grind! So since it's much easier to level by completing quests, why not follow that road...

For the most part, mobs in LOTRO are determined by the likelyhood of their existence and appearance in LOTR lore. For this reason, you will always find a more limited number of mob types in the game. It would go against lore to include creatures not found in Middle Earth.

My recommendation is either get over it or find a different game!

LotRO isn't a game in which you grind for levels. It's feasible (assuming you have enough destiny to keep yourself fueled with the exp boosts) but generally boring and tedious. Questing is meant to be a break from the norm (and after retrying EverQuest recently it's a welcome one once again) and, as such, is going to be the primary experience gaining method in the game.

As for groups disbanding, usually they'll say beforehand if they're planning on doing multiple quests. If so, or if not, is a moot point, because it is VERY possible to go from level 1 to level 60 without ever grouping once in LotRO. Lots of groups only get together for Fellowship quests and then disband soon after, their primary objective having been completed. Shrug. That's just how this game has developed.
