Picked this up today, and either I'm a lot worse at fighting games than I remember or this has some god awful learning curve. Even on easy I find myself getting my *** kicked most of the time. Also, I still haven't figured out how blocking works. I'm pretty sure you're just supposed to stand still, which makes 0 sense to me.

Blocking in Tekken is the same as it is in Street Fighter where you hold back to block mid and high range attacks and down/back to block low blows. It's odd because Soul Calibur, the other Namco fighter has a guard button.

I think I'm more used to the guard button...

However, I'm pretty sure in T6 I tried holding back and it didn't work. =/

I always found it easier to sidestep in Tekken then try to block

I might try that. All I know is that I'm gonna have to go into practice mode for a bit...

This is definitely how it works, but mind you not all attacks can be blocked. You can usually tell which attacks these are when it involves them doing some sort of long wind up and a lot of glowing aura or flames start to surround them while charging up. These moves are more often then not incredibly slow though so it gives you plenty of time to hit your opponent mid move or to just side step. Also, throws can't be blocked but they can be stopped or sometimes even reversed if you input the same throw as your enemy when they grab you.

I've been playing Tekken for a while now so yeah, if you have any questions feel free to ask.

I'm fully aware of unblockable attacks... I just know that when I'm holding back I'm still getting hit and yet the computer seems incredibly adept at blocking just in time and completely turning around and whooping my *** without me being able to block. I mean, I would expect this stuff on hard, maybe occasionally on normal, but not on easy...

Anyway, after some time in practice mode yesterday I got good enough to beat arcade mode on easy (granted, the last couple of fights took me several tries to beat), but it'll still be a while before I consider myself ready to move up to normal...

I haven't played 6, but don't stop practicing until you've got two of King's 10 strings & no less than one of his chain throws down.

It could be that you got hit by the initial attack, which causes you to be stunned momentarily. You usually can't block in the middle of someones combo if one of the hits in the combo connected before hand unless the combo in general is slow.

It could also be that I'm too busy trying to attack/counter. I just think it's stupid that easy is this difficult.

That's good to hear. Not that I've played Tekken seriously since 4, but I remember being SO pissed off at my friend's brother. He'd only play Hwoarang, and that combo was nothing but trouble. I finally just played Practice mode against Hwoarang as King until I could counter the combo with a throw.

Although I remember beating Hwoarang with Dr. Bosconovitch once or twice. God, that was embarrassing for him... (If no one remembers, Dr. B was a hidden character in Tekken 3, unlocked by beating the Tekken Force minigame. He was this drunk old scientist who could barely stand up. He started each round laying on the ground. He had some nasty ground moves, and if you could get him standing up he was vicious, but when you have to go to lengths just to get your character to stand up...)
