Why do I feel underwhelmed? Also, this trailer doesn't seem to go anywhere. It's just showing a lot of gameplay and fighting... Sadly, that's most of all there is in Aion. They could beef it up a little more story wise though.

Also, they seem to be ripping off a lot of MMO's in this, not that they haven't already. Customizable houses? Vanguard. Mounts that are very similar to...? That's right, WoW. And the painfully obvious, it looks like we're going back in time during the war between the Asmodians and the Elyos. I'm not certain on that, but if you pay close attention to the area's, and the fact that both factions are fighting heavily in them, it suggests that. If that's the case? Helloooooooooooo Wings of the Goddess rip off.

Honestly, the game is still so new. They need to give people more time to experience it and get up to the level cap, and experience some content first. This seems sort of like an effort to hold onto people that are quitting do to the insanely boring grind and some of the frustrations that come along with Aion. They need to fix those things and get the game more balanced out before they start throwing expansions at us...

I know I will probably get sub defaulted for this comment but it just seems so... Too much for right now, and not original enough?

XD I don't think enough people post here to sub-default you, I for one, however somewhat agree. There are some lingering issues that need to be fixed before they even think about revamping the whole game.

For my part, I was totally blown away. :)

I am still reeling, and watching it over and over just trying to parse out all the hints in there.

I agree, despite the naysaying of others in this thread, this video is amazing and I'm highly optimistic about it.

The only way my happy turns to sad is if this turns out to just be a massive tease

I wouldn't have minded some indication of when this would happen

You can add me to the awestruck column. The graphics are gorgeous and the additional features look great. Just watching that video got me excited to log onto my character.

I'm sure NCsoft will start dropping hints for a release date as soon as they can. Until then, I hope they continue to release more trailers like this one.

That whole video was intense. The graphics are amazing. The mounts and housing look great. I think this video goes a long way in showing the potential for this game.

/awestruck.

More-so with the player housing than anything, customizable homes and Legion villages is so damn cool. Can't wait to be able to play with that.

Graphics Engine upgrade looks simply amazing.

My hubby was blown away. He does not even play online games. I think he has watched the video more than myself at this point. Something tells me I will be ordering another subscription to Aion.

Totally excited about the new trailer, the possibilities for Aion look limitless and I am sure what we have seen in the Vision trailer is just the beginning of great things to come! I already love the game and they keep adding more reasons for me to love it more! <3 Aion

I was teetering back and fort between having my subscription active and not, and this solidified it.

The graphic update alone puts Aion what I consider the "Graphic Cap" for online games. Meaning I doubt the graphics will get much better than this, nor really should game designers concentrate on getting graphics better than this. For me that means lasting power, better than WoW IMO unless they do a true overhaul.

Lots of game play additions I was expecting to see, but not to the degree they're showing. The housing system looks very cool, and the fact that it's in a contested area puts more investment in defending your areas. It also spread things out more which will make way for larger populations (Once this update hits, it's defiantly going to draw in more players.)

I just hope that long range grapple is something Gladiator will have access to.

Diving. Jumping off a ledge and not looking like you did it on accident was very cool minor addition I saw them do. Crossbows will make my ranger happy. (I was going dual bows anyways.)

All and all very happy with what was shown. Now next, give me some more story!

I look at that video and my first thought is "How much money would I have to spent to be able to actually play the game looking like it does in that video?". I mean the level of graphics, the lighting textures etc are really nice but to actually see that live on your screen will need one heck of a computer. Fact of it is that the majority of players will not be able to see the game live as it is in that video and have it be playable. Ya sure they are showing off what could potentially be but for most of us it seems like a bait and switch. I guess you could say its not really ncsofts fault that we don't own a top of the line gaming machine but still, it seems like they are sort of promising something most people will never reasonably be able to achieve and for that I am underwhelmed.

If NCsoft is actually stupid enough to raise the games requirements on your PC after it's already been released (which they really are that stupid) that would have to be one of the dumbest things a MMORPG creator could do. You do not make a game more demanding than it already is when people are already playing it.

That's like going out to eat at a restaurant and seeing something you like on the menu for $5.99, you order it, start eating, then the waiter comes out and says "Sorry, it's actually going to be $9.99".

You just don't do that kind of thing. If they can improve the graphics without it demanding more from a PC than that is fine and good, but if it actually requires more out of a PC? What a slap in the face to people. Honestly, I've stopped playing Aion lately anyways. NCsoft really is retarded about a lot of things they do, it's like they don't use common sense.

Remember me saying this?

Quote:
raise the games requirements

Or how about this?

I think that's obviously saying that if the expansion/update/or whatever it was raised the requirements on one's PC it would not be okay, but that if it DIDN'T raise the requirements (I.E. you can adjust the damn graphics) it would be just fine. However if they did a major update to the graphics engine or some such, which is entirely possible, and increased the requirements out of a PC it would not be be okay and make it where a lot of people's performance dropped if they didn't have a high end PC. (Oddly enough mine is pretty high end)

But ohh noez, some one said something bad about Aion! /nerdrage on

Seriha I'm serious though, NCsoft needs to give you some kind of reward for being the #1 White Knight and ultimate fanboy of Aion, you must make them terribly giddy.

Ride that fan rage s'more, but that's not the angle I'm speaking from.

By all means, show me another MMO that effectively purged, quite willingly, a significant portion of their playerbase with software updates towards a graphic engine. Redress it as some dining metaphor if you want, but it just doesn't happen. There's no logic in spending money just to lose it.

But I'll rebuke your claims of white knighting. Why are you so quick to find a reason to rag on the game and its developers? Just cancel the subscription and move on.

Actually you do seem to have a bad case of the Fan Rage. Every time I see some one in the FFXI forum or what now seems to be this one as well talk badly about Aion, you're there to take up arms. Y'know, some people just might not like it, and they just might not want to always hear a defense. Not that something long and drawn out or what not doesn't deserve it, but just on off topic threads or what have you, anytime some one speaks ill of Aion you're there to rebuttal it. You also couldn't seem to let my silly little thread giving my opinion on the game lay to rest for a long time either. But hey, that's just my opinion.

I also never said another MMORPG has done it before, in fact I'm pretty sure they haven't. I was saying however if they WERE to do that, it would be a huge mistake on their part, and NCsoft has shown before they are plenty capable of huge mistakes (I'm lookin at you Tabula Rasa). Do I think that will be the case? Honestly, no I don't. But is it impossible with them? No.

Also, I use my "dining metaphors" for people who lack reading comprehension, some of which just seem to enjoy an argument and can't understand the simpilcity of my statements, even with metaphors included.

I have maybe six posts, tops, in this forum. Let's not exaggerate.

As for your "review", it might boggle your mind to realize I wasn't only talking to you. Nor was I the only person speaking in Aion's defense (Greenjade, Vaagan, and Tummie spring to mind without going back to the thread). You give me a bit too much credit in thread diving, though. Two posts not in this forum I've had drawn out conversations in actually had Aion in the title, so call it on-topic. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say I've interjected somewhat randomly in three other threads the game came up in, but typically to correct some misinformation from the "hurk hurk korean mmo fail!" crowd.

In short, have I compared Aion to FFXI? Yes. Have I said Aion's done some things better? Yes. Do I believe FFXI has done other things better? Sure, but part of that simply comes down to age and polish over time. Has NCS, as a company, screwed up before? Possibly. This is their first game I've played and I tend to trust first-hand experience more than random reviews. The fact they've been communicating with the players far more than SE has in a few short months is a welcome change of pace, too.

So, if you consider all of that your definition of white knighting, I'd really hate to see how you'd react to someone who really was.

Someone talks badly about Aion for the wrong reason he has every right to be there to take up arms. You, are attacking NCSoft for something that hasn't even happened yet and probably won't happen the way you think it will. Perhaps you should wait until they do what you are claiming they will do before you start campaigning how stupid they are for changing system reqs, then you will be right for flaming them. Until then, it's just nerdrage.
