I just beat the first Demon (well, not counting the tutorial Smiley: laugh), Phalanx.

My experience with the game is pretty much a super easy tutorial followed by massive amounts of death. I prefer to play offline; I don't really like the tips pasted all over the place, and I lack the self-control to just not click on them.

I've actually found DS to be a great game for me to pick up and play for short periods of time. I play until I die, or until I open a new gate or whatever, and then put it down for a bit. I made a Knight that I didn't really care for, and have been playing as a Wanderer for a bit now, and I like her. I prefer to use the two-handed weapon stance, but with all the firebombs and arrows, I tend to have to spend most of my time rocking a shield.

Really awesome game, though.

Only if you suck. Smiley: tongue

But in seriousness...Royal focused on casting stats is easy mode. My melee focused character died a whole lot more.

You should see the way my roommate plays. He uses two shields. One is the Adjudicator's shield, which he wears on his back strictly for the health regen. I want to say that the other is a purple flame shield(or maybe it's a Brushwood Shield), but whatever it is, he wields it in both hands and uses it for these awesomely hilarious smash attacks which seem to really irritate people that invade him. Most bosses can barely budge his stamina meter when he blocks their attacks.

Right now I'm rocking a spiked shield + winged spear, and I have a bow to switch off with my shield and a dagger to switch off with the spear. I'm usually fine until hax bosses or hax mobs. Like, I was randomly 1 shotted (full stamina and full hp gone in 1 hit) at multiple times, and once I lost internet connection while running across the bridge where the dragon breaths fire. So when I get back on the dragon of course starts over again and I die. It's those moments that make you say ********** the 4000 souls I just accumulated, I'm going to grind somewhere."

Wait till you hit NG+ and you end up losing over 100k souls, then the

Even on non NG+, you can get something like 5k souls in about three minutes using a circuit in 4-2. Smiley: nod

The only boss I've beaten so far are Phalanx and the Red Dragon though, I don't think I could easily run 4-2 yet.

4-1 is a lot easier than you'd think(if you try to play the game completely linearly, you're in for some annoyance), and the boss is a joke. And once you get good and ganking the reaper in 4-2, it's really easy to farm(and if you can hit him fast, you stun lock him to death).

Hell, even if you're not ready to take on the red eyes skeleton right before 4-1's boss, the silver skeletons in that level are great to farm and you can get revenge on the tutorial boss who you can kill a little ways in without him moving at all if you use ranged attacks(kill the flying mantas first and bring plenty of arrows).

I'd also recommend you get a better shield. The spiked shield is a great weapon, but it sucks as a shield(it lets a big chunk of damage through even when blocking). The red eyes knight in area 1-1 sometimes drops a purple flame shield(or if you go to where the dragons roost when the world is on pure white tendency you can get one easy as they're not there). If you really like riposting, the knight's shield is another farmable option, which you can get off the blue eyes knight in 1-1 as a rare drop.

I picked up a purple flame shield from the dragons place since the red dragon I killed was no longer guarding it, Been grinding the red eyes knight to get enough souls to level my strength to 22 to use it. Going to replace the spiked shield with that.

The red eyes likes to hax sometimes though. <.<

Alright, as of now my current setup is:

Left1: Purple Flame Shield+3
Left2: Spiked Shield
Righ1: Winged Spear+4
Right2: Compound Short Bow

Let's see how this works out :3

Welp, game is a lot better now that I don't randomly die; and when I do I can usually get back to my bloodstain easily. I've cleared.. 1-1, 1-2, 2-1, 2-2, 3-1, and 4-1 so far I think. Using L1: Purple Flame Shield +5(+4?) L2: Silver Catalyst (For Weapon Enchant) R1:Winged Spear +6 R2: Sticky Long Composite Bow +3

I needs moonlight stuffs for mah winged spear and moar spidershards for my bow.

What stats you stacking? Also, you might want to pick up a weapon for those situations where things aren't vulnerable to magic or piercing damage. There's a Dragon Longsword +1 in 2-2 that does "pure physical" and fire damage that might be great for those situations.

I haven't really had a plan for stats lol; I just got some things up to 15, got dex to 30, str to 24 to use items, magic and faith to 10 so I can use magic, and luck up for farming. Spears are my main weapons since they're awesome, so I figured I'd go for the physical/magical one to cover most bases instead of going pure physical (which my bow will probably cover, I could use fire/holy arrows too :o).

I have the large sword of searching which does pretty good none-piercing damage. Even beats my Moonlight Winged Spear +3 by 8 damage right now.

I've been trying to farm the Red-Eyed Knight in 1-1, but the best strategy I've been able to use is to kite him to the stairs, and try to get him to fall there. I seem to be successful 50% of the time. I've been able to get him close to death fighting him on the stairs if he doesn't fall right, but he always seems to kill me if I don't get it right the first time. I've been thinking I could kite him to the flames at the front gate, since I run there to exit anyway.

If I'm thinking about the right spot, make sure you left those 2 barrels there untouched. I'd suggest leaving him alone until you can take him on easier. There are so much better places to farm once you get a little further. 4-2 for example, if I didn't lose focus for an hour straight I could definitely get 360,000 souls easily.

There's a spot where you can get him stuck by running him around the wooden structures just past where you kite him through the first building, leaving you free to kill him with ranged attacks. That said, if he's giving you trouble, you might find the silver skeletons in 4-1 to be an easier to farm group(be careful to pull only one at a time and then it's a simple matter of dodging their first big swing and then beating them to death), just avoid the red eyes skeleton there or you'll eat dirt.

I actually ended up being successful enough times that I can kill him in a straight-up fight now. If only I could get the shield to drop. Smiley: frown

I'm also having a lot of trouble farming Hardstones. I get a ton of Sharpstones from the mini-Phalanxes, but only once in a while do I get a Hardstone.

I tried the 1-2 boss, but had a hard time with it. I didn't have any ranged weapons, so I was stuck running around him and stabbing his ankles. I might give 2-1 a shot tomorrow.

You can buy small pieces in 2-1 from the vendor on top of the blacksmith and chunks in 2-2 at the vendor on the side of the mountain.

He isn't too bad when you get the hang of him, just make sure you have a good piercing weapon, as his ankles are weak to piercing damage. As weird as it sounds, if you've picked up the spiked shield, try using it in both hands as your weapon against him. It's rather effective.

Ya, I got my Winged Spear upgraded to +4, and Magic to 10 so I could learn spells and grabbed Soul Arrow. He was no problem after that. Bonus is I can spam Soul Arrow at the Red Eye in 1-1 and he dies before reaching me. Smiley: lol

If that's the case, the red eye is no longer worth farming. Do area 4-1 to unlock 4-2 and then do reaper runs. Smiley: nod

I'll ask my roommates when I get home if they do. I don't think I do, personally, though.
