Most black phantoms I encountered do. Only time I ever got beaten without them tricking me into enemies was the first time I encountered that ************* scraping spear.
That thing should be banned from PvP play.

I'm getting pissed off at how many times I have my shield up and I still get hit twice by the person and just instadie. No it was not a blind or a large sword of moonlight. And when I backstab them for 900+ damage they still don't die. RAWR
And how people magically backstab me without even trying, whereas when I actively try to backstab them it NEVER WORKS.
Or when I backstab them and IT DOESN"T DO ANY DAMAGE< FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Cleared 4-1, debating working on my Mace up grades and using the soul for a Meat Cleaver, or learning the Regen buff. Leaning towards the Meat Cleaver.

Meat Cleaver is nice, but you can make it out of a Club(+0), so don't use your mace.
Also, I just got put into the backstab animation and died, while I was entering the backstab animation on somebody else.

I really like doing runs as a Blue Phantom; when you die you don't lose your souls.

Scraping spear?
It's either that or your stamina is low when they're hitting you.

Could also be your shield. Some shields don't block 100% of the damage. If your shield blocks 100% of damage then the only time you would take any damage from a normal swing is when stamina is gone or its broken(often by dooshes with scraping spears or Acid Cloud in PvP.)
You're giving me suggestions on why it's happening as if I'm one of those people who calls tech support when my computer is unplugged. My stamina is near full, if not full when it's happening. My durability is now low, it would display on screen if that was happening(Due to scraping spear or acid cloud). My character is not staggered and therefore not not blocking due to lack of stamina, nor being hit by a really big weapon. The shields I'm using prevent 100% physical damage while blocking; with varying percentages of magic and fire reduction. (30/90 and 100/70 to be specific.)
It's the same thing as when I get backstabbed by somebody who was clearly in front of me. God damn lag. I really wish they would have made lag matter less. Do you guys even PvP at all? lol

I have 2 characters and 1 of them is just to pvp with basically lol(A pure melee only build, only 2 spells I use are AMF & Warding). If its only happening in Pvp situations then your probably just lagging to all hell and to you it looks like your blocking but to the other person you look like lunch meat. I've personally never had a shield blocking problem due to lag but I have however had many a backstabbing problem due to it.
Okay, so I tried to kill the King. First two deaths were learning experiences. Third time he haxed. On my way back to him, I get the first knight to attack so that he's open for an attack. With my shield raised I spear him once. I get hit by 2 arrows at the same time and get staggered and the knight swings his sword a quarter of a second after the arrows hit me and I die. 85,000~ souls gone.
I rage quit. Time to do something else for another hour or two.

Oh, I already killed him by backstab chaining him, lol. I was talking about the 1-4 boss.

That was a pain in the ***. I've already decided that if I ever get around to him on my next playthrough, I'm just poison cloud(or is it plague cloud?) haxxing him.

I just didn't move when I entered and shot arrows at him until he was near death, then killed him with a few melee shots. I started NG+; and I don't plan to take advantage of tricks like that for any of the bosses this time around. (Like killing the first maneater through the fog lol.)

I was pissed when I found out you could do that. I must have fallen off that platform a dozen times trying to kill them.
