Star Trek: Online (was forum=22)Follow

Ok, backstory.

I needed to buy something on Amazon for >£15 to hit the super saver delivery, and this was on offer for £25. And I'm bored of FFXI.

So... I've preordered it.

I looked a little at the site, and it looks pretty good - captain your own ship, pick your crew, do missions and stuff. I assume there's PvP and so on and so forth as well, which will be interesting.

I know the beta starts soon, is anyone here signed up to it? Or has anyone else preordered the game and knows more about it than me?

I was never a massive fan of the series - I liked TNG and was partial to the odd episode of DS9, and that blond chick who was dating the chef from Voyager was cute, but that's about it. So I don't really know much about what to expect.

A friend has been looking forward to the beta for a while now. I haven't talked to him since it started, presumably because he is still engrossed in it.

This testimony is promising.

The game itself looks stunning, although judging by the info on the website, my preorder date of early February looks horrendously optimistic. Either the site needs updating or I can't imagine it being ready, all the info is either "this will be announced later" or "we think you'll have this, and maybe this".

check it.

If I was a Trekie(sp) I'd really consider it, but as I really don't care for the movies/series it is kind of "meh" to me. However, I did watch the new movie w/ my father who is a fan of the original show (not at like ubernerd level or anything) and he was able to kind of help me understand wtf was going on, it was cool.

I no has premium :(

Yeah once you get past the "oh my god Star Trek it's so geeky" image that everyone seems to have, it's actually a pretty decent show, and quite adult in places. It deals with things like racism, sexism, domestic violence, and so on.

I'll give it a go, anyway. It can't be any worse than that overhyped piece of ****, Aion.

I've not played Aion. I know it is made by a Korean company, and that was enough to turn me away.
Korean MMOs are such Grind Fests...

I'm not a Trekkie, but I'm excited to try this game. I'm hoping for a Beta key, but I have no clue if that's gonna happen.

Now I'm excited about the game even more!

I really like the concept behind it, it sounds a bit like a proper RPG (level up your party, level up yourself) - from what the website says, you'll have to actually earn promotions in Starfleet, or whatever the other races call Starfleet.

February is going to be a great month... Mass Effect 2 out on the 29th, I have all of that next week off work to play it to death, then Star Trek comes out.

Good times.

Thanks for offering to let us know what the beta's like, much appreciated :)

If i had $30 to waste I would. Free beta key, then a years worth of me posting images and smiley face and polls, totally worth it.

Everything is better than SWG, even PotC Online and Toontown.

Btw, that free Beta key is for the Closed Beta which ends tomorrow. So I would hold off on getting premium until they offer keys for the Open Beta.

Sir/Ma'am, it is your duty to update us lost souls as to how magnificent this game may, or may not be.

The game launcher is online even though you can't do anything, but you can look at the various character select screens.

I've been told that closed beta keys are automatically valid for open beta... I'll try it out tomorrow and deliver my findings here.
