Hi all, I hadn't realized SWG was still an active game until i found this foru8m, I'm downloading the trial right now. I wanted to play it when it came out way back in the day but I didnt have a computer then and by the time I got one I couldn't find it anywhere, but I wanna give it a go now.

Anyone got any pointers or suggestions for a noob?

Well first off select a server that suits your play style:
1) I would suggest trying various servers as they all have different atmospheres.

2) Keep in mind that the heavily populated servers are also the laggiest.

3) Learn the game on the newbie station, lots of people rush to get off it but you can make good money and experience there.

4) Find yourself a good guild that will help you get on your feet in terms of direction and leveling help.

5) Don't forget the Official forums for the server you join.

6) Play at your own pace and have fun.

Starsider is apparently the RP heavy server, Ahazi Bria, Bloodfin, are among the other more populated servers (not the only ones but you should see in character generation which servers are good) i really dont advise creating a character on a quiet server though, this game is better when there are other players..

just created a new character.. and got a 'snapshot' so to speak of server activity, now, this is, bearing in mind, UK time zone specific.. but.. Starsider, showed medium load, the others showed variations of 'light' my guess is that starsider is the new 'bloodfin' - well, bloodfin used to be the more populated server, no longer it seems.. i'll let you know in a day or two how populated seems to be :D

Make 2 characters: a structures trader & a combat character, such as a spy.
They have very different roles, so play very differently.
That way you can quickly take a break which you need to get refreshed.
Make sure both are in the same galaxy.
If you want to change a profession, theres an NPC outside Mos Eisley starport who will do that for you free, the 1st few times.
Be careful not to change from a combat profession to a non-combat profession, & visa-versa as u will lose most of your gained experience.
Choose a side (Rebel or Imperial or Neutral), recruiter outside Bestine starport or Anchorhead cantina basement, then go find a space trainer, the bartender in Bestine Hotel can help you there.
You will then be given a starship to fly.
Add chat tabs to include a guild tab & a group tab, by right clicking on the chat tab & selecting "add new tab". then right click on the tabs to open a channel window, move guild to right side of this window, then everything else too. In the other new tab, add group to right side, then all the others.
Do the same thing to the chatbox when in your starship.
Have fun, this is an awesome game.

argh.. dont do it.. stay out of bestine.. its populated by imps and other low lifes... er... ok, there are alternatives, for budding future Han Solo's out there, you can choose to be a smuggler, and find the pilot trainer in the back of the mos eisley cantina! besides, everyone knows that the pirates faction ships have the most guns :D
