Problems with 360Follow

Hey all,

I've been having a slight issue with my 360 that I've had for only a few months and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions. My controllers (all wireless) have started taking a long time (a couple minutes) to connect to the system. Once they've connected they seem to work fine, but it's kinda crappy having to wait for them to connect. It does not seem to matter whether the system is already on or not. I have assumed that it is something interfering with the initial connection to the system, but I unplugged the Wii nearby (which is the only thing I think could be the culprit, and they worked fine for the first few weeks the systems were next to each other) with no luck. I posted on the Xbox forums to no avail, so perhaps any of you have experienced something similar and can offer advice?

Thanks!

That is rather odd, however I doubt any other wireless system you have nearby is the cause of it. Microsoft used a proprietary standard for connecting their controllers to the 360 instead of using bluetooth. Is it possible that someone nearby, a neighbour or the like may have recently acquired a 360? The addition of another system nearby could cause a slight delay in detection.

Well, I do live in an apartment complex, so it is certainly possible... but you'd think that they would have gotten it around xmas time, not a month later when the symptoms started =/. Furthermore, I'm not sure any of my nearest neighbors are the types to own one, and even if they did... would that be close enough to interfere? The place where we have ours is a good 20+ feet away from where another console could possibly be (and assuming those particular neighbors don't have one in the mirroring corner of their apartment from us, that goes up to about 50+ feet minimum). I didn't think about that possibility though... I could move the console and see if that helps; would be a bit of effort but it may be worth a shot.

I am fairly sure that it detects all systems within range then Identifies your particular system. I am not sure how much range it has. If it is anything like my PS3 the controller could easily reach a few floors up and down as well as probly a good 50-60 feet before it won't detect a system.

Have you tried to resync them to your 360?

I would tell you how but I haven't done it in a while and I don't want to tell you how I think works... and then have your 360 not see your controllers at all...

But... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906947?sd=xbox

Connect an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller to your Xbox 360 console
To connect the controller to your Xbox 360 console, follow these steps:

Press and hold the Xbox Guide button until the controller turns on. The Xbox Guide button is the round button with the green "X" near the center of the controller.

Make sure that your Xbox 360 console is turned on. If your Xbox 360 console is not turned on, press the power button. The power button is the large round button on your Xbox 360 console.

On the Xbox 360 console, press and release the Connect button. The Connect button is the small round button on the Xbox 360 console.

On the controller, press and release the Connect button. The Connect button is the small button on the front edge of the controller, between the left bumper button and the charging port.

After the Ring of Light spins and flashes one time on the controller and on the console, the controller is connected. The quadrant on the Ring of Light that remains lit indicates the position in which the controller is connected.

I did try that during my floundering around trying everything stage, but I'm not sure that I did it while the controller was already on. Might be worth another shot anyway...

Trying not to jinx it, but it randomly started working normally again yesterday. Perhaps all I needed to do was make a thread? Smiley: tongue

Yes, though I doubt that was the issue. Batteries was one of the first things I tried to fix initially. Charged them, even tried switching back to regular batteries from the rechargeable packs. Yesterday was the first day in a week or so that it had been charged though most likely.
