With about a week left until the new Pokémon game comes out, which one will you be getting?
I'm leaning heavily towards getting Gold, as it looks like everyone and their mother is getting Silver.
Plus, with Gold I get the ability to get Doniphan and several other Pokémon, which I've always wanted to get.

I seriously lost faith in the Final Fantasy series after XI. I still haven't played 12. 13 looks beautiful, but I don't expect I'll be purchasing it anytime soon.

Busy playing through Emerald atm, but I may get HeartGold at some point. I had the original gold anyway... who would want silver?

493 for the moment, with a new generation coming up soon(ish).
I haven't figured out which one i'll be getting, but man, I loved the original Gold. I've actually bought atleast one game of every generation that came out and thoroughly enjoyed playing them.
(I wonder which version has Beautifly... How I enjoy wtfpawning in-game trainers with a Beautifly.)

About 500+ Pokemon now I think since the National Dex in Platinum covers all Pokemon from the past games.

You don't have to catch them anymore. Just meeting them is satisfactory. It's not as much fun in my opinion, but I can imagine some people find it more bareable than catching all 493.

Emerald has Beautifly... currently using it in my party, but sometimes I wish I had another offensive move =/. Morning Sun and Stun Spore are just too good to pass up though...

You didn't miss much. 12 was so terrible that it's the only FF game that I've never finished.

Now it's all about grinding the best stats and the most efficient movesets. As much fun as pokémon in-game is, the online community is actually pretty darn horrible.
I can't wait to get them when they come out. I'll probably get Silver. I read somewhere that they will not only make available all the difficult to get gold/silver pokemon, but many of the legendaries from Ruby/Sapphire. So there won't be any need to keep the old GBA games.
I'm most likely getting it, but I'm not sure if I'll get it right away.

My kid got a non-working copy of the original Gold at a garage sale for a couple bucks. Or rather, it worked but you couldn't save games. I popped it open and changed the battery and so now he wants Soul Silver since he has a working copy of the original Gold.

I tend to have one main tank Pokemon and a party of Pickup Pokemon... and I put Exp Share on one of them at a time for 10 levels until they are picking up Rare Candy and and other goodies fairly often.
I don't play seriously though... and I don't have the patience to EV my Pokemon... which is funny since I took the time to catch a dozen Feebas. (To be fair, it was in Platinum... I don't think I'd have found them in Ruby.)
