The correct way to play an FPS - any FPS - is keyboard-only.
If this isn't feasible for whatever FPS you're playing, then the designers failed.

I played Half-Life 2 and all the add ons (well minus portal) on Xbox 360 and loved it. I never could get through Half Life 1 though because was always save games getting corrupted or something like that.
I will agree PC gives you better control on FPS games then a console does but most of the time if your like me and just play easy mode story controller is just fine.

Portal isn't a halflife add on. It really has almost nothing to do with halflife at all.
Gabe Newell just announced during the Sony Press Conference at E3 that Portal 2 will be coming to the PS3.
