Unlike Wow, you will not be fighting pigs for many levels. No sir. In Vana'diel there are plenty of different mobs to fight. Warning. Please be careful of the sea horror while traveling on the air ship. If you chose to fish, it may come after you and kill you in one, or 2 hits. We have some very evil monsters in our land.

Did you actually play WoW? You don't fight pigs for many levels... in fact, I can't even think where you actually fight pigs. In FFXI, you find the exact same mobs in almost every zone. Crabs, Pugils, Goblins, and Mandragora alone will take you to about half max level.

Seriously, my blm got to level 56 or 58 and all I remember fighting are crabs, goblins, mandragoras, skeletons and beetles. There are only two places in WoW that you fight anything similar to a pig, and that was boars in the starting zone for humans, and then again in Hellfire Peninsula. WoW sometimes has issues with repetitive mobs, but it's not near as bad as in FFXI. You still end up fighting a lot more different types of mobs: Scourge, spiders, bears, lions, murlocs, other humans, giants, raptors, kobolds, gnolls, etc.

After repeated promises that it would "get better" and reassurances that I "just hadn't found the right class," I have given up on WoW. I was bored. The community still sucked. And, mostly, I just didn't enjoy the way it was played. So, what did I do? I told my buddies ********** the guild" and downloaded Warhammer again, despite the dwindling number of players. Guess what? Just a few hours in and I'm having a blast already. The only bad things so far are that my entire guild has quit and they moved the career/renoun trainers to the Temple of Sigmar. I can live with this.

1) Are you being serious?

2) If so, wtf is focus? Are they turning them into rouges rogues now?

1) Yes.

2) Focus works sort of like energy and runic power (if you've played Death Knight) combined. Focus regenerates on its own, but can also be regenerated faster by using certain abilities (Steady Shot, for instance) while others consume it.

Supposedly they're trying to move the gameplay away from mindless button-mashing. They're also changing the way dungeons work as the days of "pull everything and AOE it down" are supposedly over with the launch of Cataclysm (mixing the current situation with old TBC heroics where CC was vital).

Pretty drastic changes, but interesting nonetheless.

Source to prove I'm not yanking your chain about the Hunter changes.

Actually its going to be more like hunter pets. In fact, exactly like hunter pets because they already use focus. :P

Not exactly like Hunter pet focus, though, since Steady Shot will actually generate focus while a pet's focus works more like a Rogue's energy.

Resource Mechanic Change

Here we come to the meat of the upcoming hunter changes.

Hunters will no longer use mana; instead the class will use Focus. Focus generates much like Energy, by building up. It will not be affected by Intellect at all. Haste will improve its generation. Hunters will generate roughly 6 Focus per second, slightly less than rogues' Energy generation rate of around 10 Energy per second. Below, we have listed some examples of how we intend Focus costs to operate:

Steady Shot/Cobra Shot: No cost. Generates 9 Focus per shot (or 12 per second instead of 6).
Arcane Shot/Chimera Shot /Explosive Shot: 45 Focus.
Aimed Shot/Multi-Shot: 60 Focus.
Concussive Shot/Tranquilizing Shot: 35 Focus.
Rapid Fire/Master’s Call/Disengage: 30 Focus.

*edit what resolution are you runnign at Maz? That can make a huge difference. Also the landscapes get better and bbetter outside the noob zones and you won't be wearing any of the really nice armor at that point either. ( Though the shire is aweful purty especially when a rainbow comes out)

I believe I was running 1920x1200. I played a human and an elf, but haven't tried a Hobbit yet. If the Shire is that purrty, I might just try it.

Mazra make sure your using the highrez client! In your install folder there should be a file called client_highres.dat
its rather large in size.. I think its pushing close to 4g now, and your total install with it is usually 13.5 gig give or take. Thats the file that gives you the "purrty" graphics. Something tells me you only have the "normal" version installed since you said it was only 10gig you downloaded (twice...)

I have that one, 3.7 gigs. The downloaded files took up 10 gigs, but upon installation and updating, it added some files and now takes up 12 gigs.

I'm tempted to resubscribe now that I know it gets better further in, but I want to play a Runekeeper or w/e it's called and would have to buy both expansions. Smiley: bah

Doug, did they improve/fix stuff in Warhammer? Like the Black Ork and how the "stance" system was completely broken (you'd drop stance all of a sudden for no reason)?

Runekeeper was fun, I liked it a lot. spell system worked like the shaman in WAR, but cooler imo.

Well pets also get focus from your crits through a talent, it just happens that hunters get a different ability that gives them some. And who knows, there might be talents that make other things give it too, its just that it's the same named and functioning energy system as the pets have.

And other stuff I'm sure nobody here cares about.

I don't know. I haven't picked up SM or BO since I came back. They changed keep layouts so you don't have to run through the main room to get outside on the second level. Tier 1 is a pain in the *** because there's a million tightwads/kids playing the free trial and twinking their characters. There's enough ORvR to keep you interested. Scenarios pop just often enough that you can do stuff in between, but not so often that it's instant gratification. They dropped the lamer ones like Stonetroll Crossing, and Phoenix Gate, and Reikland Factory is now a full time scenario. EXP/Renoun boosts on weekends. You'd have to come see. It's the same, but it all feels different.
