Senior Producer Brian Knox made a blog post (http://tera-online.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6425) about how their original goal was to have all races be able to be all classes, but there are various forces at work which affect this goal and decision making process:
* Game Balance
* Race Differentiation
* Aesthetics
To make a quick summary, he says… what’s more balanced than allowing every race to play every class… but, race/class limitations can add more uniqueness to each race… and, aesthetics and lore can make certain combinations silly… basically everything is a maybe at this point in time.
I agree that it’s a hard decision when you’re trying to form a cohesive and consistent world based on serious lore, but for the sake of player choice and mass appeal, isn’t allowing for “silly†combinations actually charming and fun for a lot of players? Many of the popular race and class combinations found in many games is actually something cute, weird, or just crazy. And as far as balancing goes, there’s actually pros and cons to both large and small models and hitboxes, so why not let players make the choice on what they want? It should be pretty common sense or intuition to determine what you’re getting yourself into if you pick a giant or a loli.
