So after SC2 got released I figured I'd get a legit copy of the original Starcraft so I could play online. So far my experience has been... interesting.
I've played through all the solo campaign and custom maps before over the years, but playing online is almost like a completely different game.
I constantly find myself in a position where I don't have any idea what the **** I'm supposed to be doing. There are so many maps people make that fundamentally change how the game is played... I got on this one game where everyone is supposed to fend of "tar monsters"(zerg overlords and other things) before they overrun the "city"(a bunch of random buildings). Well I wasn't able to figure it out right away and had about 5 other people ******** the entire time until we inevitably lost.
Similar maps I've come across involve units named after Super Mario characters that have incredible stats and are almost impossible to kill. Well, I was on the "bad guy" side as "Larry Koopa" and died almost immediately, whereas I'd constantly be respawned as a "goomba" (zergling) and haplessly tried to contribute to the battle in some way until I got bored and gave up.
Another more interesting example was Starcraft's version of Risk. Again, I wasn't able to figure out what to do right away so I was wiped off the map pretty quickly, though I was given opportunity to try and recover throughout the game as my people attempted to revolt.
Anyway, I'm not terribly bad at the ACTUAL game of Starcraft(not that great either). I almost always play as either Terran or Zerg.
