Yeah, I know it's taboo to mention an FPS to what is primarily an MMORPG-playing demographic. But I can't be the only one here who'll be playing this game.

I'll be getting the game on release, but won't be able to really play it. Waiting on a new PS3 to arrive (old one is FUBAR'd), and don't have an HDTV with me yet. But hopefully I'll be able to have it up and running within a few weeks. I'm pretty psyched for it. I was skeptical of all the hype surrounding MW2, but gave it a shot and loved it. I'm pleased that Black Ops seems to retain everything I liked about the last game, while still looking fresh (I'm a sucker for customization options, too).

If you're planning on playing, what are your thoughts? I'd love to strike up a discussion on the games here...I love COD, but god knows most of its fanbase on dedicated sites is incapable of expressing a rational thought. And I figure much better here than say, GameFAQs.

*shudders*

So, what'cha looking forward to? Dreading? Me, I can't wait to unlock and purchase the WA2000. If there was ever a gun that I'd call sexy, that'd be it. I'm regarding the inclusion of dogs as a killstreak with a large amount of fear. I HATE dogs in games. Don't care what they're doing. Hate the 1-hit kill ones from MW2. Hate the freaky Resident Evil zombie ones. Hate the Nintendogs. It's all bad news. I just know as soon as I hear the barking in Black Ops, I'm gonna go all "Curl up in a ball in the corner and frantically try to see them before they see me."

Ugh.

I heard the zombie maps are the same ones from World at War :/

I mean, I rather liked that part of WaW, but to reuse the same content seems tacky.

What I gather (and don't quote me on this) is that the maps from WaW are only included in the collector's edition versions of the game. There are 3 new maps for the zombie mode, and those actually come standard with the game.

Never tried the zombie thing myself, so it's all new to me. But it seems like it was pretty popular. I'm looking forward to giving it a shot.

It's actually a LOT of fun, especially when you find a group that isn't full of idiots and will actually communicate.

Edit:

I used to think Shinoyuma (zombie swamp) was the most difficult, but later I found out I can survive indefinitely by myself by kiting the entire mass of zombies around in a circle in a big open area. You can't really do it nearly as well on any other map. Most people try to corner themselves in a tight spot and die and often I am the only one left alive time after time.

Nice. Zombieland taught me well. Rule #1: Cardio.

I'm one of those "choke point" guys, but it's always cool when a game kinda forces you to abandon that strategy. I remember Goldeneye, when the solution to every problem was "run in, aggro everybody, then run around a tight corner to kill them as they follow you." Fun at the time, but I've come to appreciate better gameplay designs. Like how Mercenaries mode in RE always forced you to keep moving, when all you wanted to do was camp and hide from the scary chainsaw dude. So much fun.

Okay, I'm officially excited about zombie mode. Bonus!

My husband will be getting this game from my mother for Christmas. She wanted to get him Halo: Reach and Fable III, but I had to gently tell her that we already had those. She was pretty shocked.

Maybe closer to that time, we can trade PSN stuffs.

Cool, yeah.

PS3's scheduled for delivery on the 10th. It's gonna be like Christmas day all over again.

I'm getting it, and I'm kicking myself for preordering for Xbox, instead of PC, but I don't have any friends from back home that play any games what so ever on PC, so I'm going to have to suck it up, and bear the clunky *** controls.

That's correct, and they'll more than likely release it to people that didn't buy hardened and prestige editions as a DLC for Microsoft points, and whatever the PS3 equivalent is.

Super Salvador from RE4s Mercs had me in tears of anger, I could only ever kill him as Hunk

For anyone that wants to see quite a bit of multiplayer footage and has an hour to spare

A little diversion about that guy:

The first time I ever beat that stage (and with Leon, of all people) was easily my favorite moment in the history of me playing video games.

I was running around the stage, trying to use the red barrels to finish off the 2nd Salvador (I had used up all my grenades killing the first one). After pouring buckets of ammo into the guy, I was convinced that it just wasn't gonna happen this time. In a fit of desperation, I accidentally left myself pinned in a corner with the shotgun, as he closed in. I shot the stage's last barrel, but he plowed through the explosion without so much as a flinch. I had one last shell chambered...figured I was toast. As he closed the last couple feet towards me, chainsaw swinging away, I fired the last round into his face, and literally put the controller down on the table. Last thing I saw was the chainsaw blade about 2 inches from poor Leon's neck. I just waited to hear the sound of the death animation.

Instead I heard my roomate, who had been watching, suddenly yelp. Looked up to see the Salvador collapse in a heap. I freaked out, fumbling to try to grab the controller again. Then spent the next 3-ish minutes running around on a spastic zombie murdering spree. Ended up getting a high score on the level that I was never able to duplicate, even with freaking Wesker.

Yeah, I watched that video the other day. Great to see so much gameplay, even if the people playing were so gawdawful. Smiley: tongue

I'm liking all the wager match ideas. They seem like a cool way to get you using weapons that you might not ordinarily bother with. They all look really innovative...should definitely help provide much-needed variety and liven gameplay up a bit.

Not sure if I like the inclusion of a ballistic knife, but we'll see.

So me and my friends are playing through the solo campaign before we start multiplayer (because if we start multiplayer now, we will never play the solo campaign all the way through).

All I can say is this campaign is kicking my *** a lot more than MW2 did. I do like the way the missions are presented though. Can't wait to reach the end.

Gah...I've got the game and my PS3 now, but no TV to play it on! What a bummer. I'll be heading back home tonight though, so I'll finally get a chance to play it then. I think I'll do the same as you: start with the campaign, and for the same reasons.

It's gonna be difficult to force myself to stop playing and go to bed tonight, I can tell.

I bought it for pc. My current machine is a tad underpowered but i can run MW1 and MW2 medium to low with decent framerate even in big firefights. Black ops is Treyarch though and they always fail at engines, which I forgot about, WaW was the same way with being laggy.

Anyway iI turned down everything to the lowest and I get HORRIBLE lag spikes anytime an enemy is in front of me and fires it gets jumpy. I can have 3 teammates firing next to me or on screen and i get a small fps rate drop but not the lag and jump of an enemy firing on the screen. It pretty much ruins MP. I haven't did SP as of yet, a round of Zombies was fun and they have these crawlers, which I wasn't expecting.

At this moment I'm up in the air. My machine should be able to run this game no problems on Med~Low settings but something is just making it unplayable. A lot of people are saying there's issues also. Hopefully we get a patch soon.

I kind of thought the guy firing the rocket looked like Jimmy Kimmel. But I don't think it was him.

My husband brought Black Ops home tonight. He and my son played a bit through the campaign, took a peek at the zombies and did a little multi-player. They were all excited about it. I was kinda meh because to me it looks like MW2 and I don't do FPS anyway.

Finally got to play a bit last night around 12. Turns out I couldn't resist the allure of multiplayer, so I jumped right into that.

I struggled mightily until I got the M14. For some reason I just prefer the single-fire weapons (the FAL was my favorite in MW2). The gun does have a nasty kick-up, though.

Right now my K/D is probably around .9-ish. Not too bad for just starting.

I'm just about to hit the first prestige, I've played about 20 hours so far.

My favourite weapons so far are probably the Commando assault rifle, and the AK74u.

The Famas is pretty good, if you burst fire it, and Red dot sights really help it as well. By far the best AR until you get the Commando at 44. The AK74u with steady aim is borderline overpowered as well.

Also, Dual mags is an amazing attachment, You get to carry double the ammo, and your reloads are quicker every second reload, it nullifies the need for Scavenger.

Sniping got broke. I miss quick-scoping with the intervention, but if they cave and make SoH pro affect (effect?) Snipers, that would be awesome.

I'm probably going to get it for PC as soon as I know they've patched all the bits that are totally broken.

Yeah, since I got the FAMAS the other day, I've been using it exclusively. Got Extended mags and a silencer on it, since the iron sights work well enough for me right now. Starting to turn in more 2:1 K:D games now, even some 4:1 ones. Great gun.

I'll probably give the FN FAL a shot to earn my love soon though, since I loved it in MW2 so much.

It bums me out how bad shotties are. They're pretty much useless. Its far worse than the sniping nerf, IMHO. I hope they tighten them up and improve their range a bit.

I too am enjoying the FAMAS a lot. Using it my K:D is about 1.8:1 (good for me).

My friend was using the FAL yesterday, he said he could fire twice per trigger pull. Once you started firing really fast, it would fire once when you pulled the trigger and again when you released it. Personally I thought this was a glitch, it happened to me when I was using the Olympia the other day, pressed the trigger once and it fired both shells at the enemy.

I have a love/hate relationship with how the killstreak reward kills don't count towards your killstreak. Overall I like it, but sometimes I wish my mortar team kills would be enough to bring me my next reward.

So far I'm keeping my kill streaks low. RCXD, Napalm Strike, Mortar Team. In MW2 I was able to ride the KS reward kills to the next KS reward, but can't do that in Black Ops.

I hate dogs. I told my buddy the other day as I was surrounded by three of them that one bite on the arm shouldn't be enough to insta-kill me.

Single-player was fun and amazingly made, but a little short. Started playing at 6 PM and it's barely midnight now - and I'm done.

The effects are incredible, though. The smoke and explosions look awesome. The character dismemberment is kinda neat, though so unrealistic that it doesn't really offer anything. You toss a grenade right in front of an enemy, it explodes and his arm falls off. On the other hand, the revolver you run around with in Vietnam can rip off legs.

Best gore engine I've ever seen was the GHOUL engine from Soldier of Fortune. Not that I need gore to enjoy a FPS, but if they're going for the dismemberment effect, they might as well go all out.

I wish they would work on the match making system a little bit. It's not fun playing with people who are clearly better/clearly worse than you. Out of the 750,000 players, they should be able to find a group of people that have similar stats to me and my group of friends. I mean, they keep track of pretty much every single stat there is.

I've also had a few games where we were dominating, and then people on the other team leave the game. Then much better players join, and it's like night and day. We'll be doing great, and suddenly these few new players are kicking our *** and we lose. If they would just keep players close in ability overall, tide swings like that wouldn't happen just because people leave/join.

I don't expect to win every match, I'm not a great player, and my teammates aren't the best either. But at least TRY to keep the games fair. I'd much rather play games where the scores are even than when either side is obliterating the other (even if it's my side that's winning, it's still boring).

I was in a lobby tonight playing, two games in a row the teams were even, objectives games ending with less than a 20 point spread, lots of action on both sides, etc. Then some people leave the lobby after the second game. A party joins, the next game we are completely dominated. I'm talking 25 to 250 Headquarters, the last ten minutes was just them ******* with us, holding down a headquarters point without capturing it.

Ya, I know, blah blah blah I suck. Still, they should put me with other sucky players.

Two shots to the chest area is a kill, which is easy enough if your trigger finger is fast enough. It's an extremely powerful gun if you know what the hell you're doing.

You're doing it wrong. Spas-12, secondary of your choice, with Lightweight, Steady Aim, and Marathon. I managed to go 22 for 3 earlier with that set up.

Also, I recommend getting Marathon pro as soon as you possibly can, Unlimited sprint is insane, but the CTF requirement can take a while if you keep getting put into games with retarded team mates. The best thing to do is to get yourself and a friend or two to run flags, taking it in turns, and if one of you already has the requirement, kill yourself with a grenade (or anything explosive really) and let your friend pick up the flag so he can cap it.

Call of Duty campaigns have never been very long, unless you play on veteran, which means they take forever, but only because you keep dying. Vet seems to be good practice for Multiplayer, kinda.

This. except the part about you sucking, I can't possibly comment. I'm starting to get annoyed with it aswell. They need to put sh*t players with sh*t players, and good players with good players.
