Four professions remaining!

Take a look at the official wiki page, which gives one or two clues, and take your best guess as to what we will see from the final four.

Quote:
Remaining four professions: at least one is a returning profession, at least one is similar with a different name, and at least one is new.

source

We have one remaining soldier class (heavy), and one remaining scholar (light armor), and two remaining adventurers (medium).

I'm banking on the returning profession being the mesmer, the 'similar with a different name' being a rogue class with similarity to the assassin, and the new class being a paladin style support warrior.

So, what are your ideas?

I was with you up until 'support warrior.' You mean like a midline (even though the term is kinda defunct now), ranged warrior?

Bets on mesmer and thief-like class as well.

I think he means a warrior with buffs, debuffs, heals, or other advantages that are more tactical than direct damage or toughness.

I dunno if they'll go the buff/de-buff route. The Arena team doesn't seem too keen on making any sort of "support" class for the game, as they've noted with their "no healers" stance.

I'm more inclined to think that as well. They've surprised me before though, so it could go either way. If there is a buff/debuff class I'd say it wouldn't be a warrior though. More like a bard/mesmer type thing.

It's gotta be Mesmer. The GW Mesmer was one of few unique things it had.

I would agree. The mesmer was really always a great class.

The silly thing is that all supposedly "new" classes are bound to be a re-skinned derivative of something else. I just hope they bring back proactive targeted protection skills like Guardian and Prot Spirit in some form.

Nah, it could work. I think they plan on blending the ideas of most of the current professions into the new professions in GW2. A bard type class keeps popping up in my head when I think about things like this.

I'm going to go with;

Engineer (Adventurer)
Mesmer (Scholar)
Assassin/Rogue (Adventurer)
Paladin/Paragon (Soldier)

Made these guesses AGES ago. Still sticking to them ;)

ENGINEER
Mesmer
Rogue

and I've never really thought of the fourth. Naut's idea of a paragon/soldier is interesting. I guess an Engineer could actually fit well with a heavy armor class too though. Which means my final guess (because I'm hopeful) would be a Ritualist of some type.

The Mesmer is probably the profession which will be revealed next.

The first hint was the purple concept art from Gamescom 2009. Another hint was a mention of mesmers in Ghosts of Ascalon. A third hint was Blackout being a condition, as seen from the latest interview with Izzy over here

Mesmer, an Assassin-eque profession and whatever blue-mace lady is are my guesses. I have no idea what the last one could be.

Sassis are the returning ones, mesmers will be the ones who'll be kinda back, and the crusader or whatever is going to be a support warrior.

I think mesmers will be the sort of back ones only because hexes and interrupts are gone from GW2 so they'll see a bit of change. I'm also guessing they'll take on some aspects of ritualists.

Dervish I could see making a return and functioning similarly to the Elementalist with different avatar forms that offer a different function, essentially making it a much more awesome version of WoW's Druid. Although a Dervish Norn would be a little... awkward to say the least.

The remaining 4, hopefully in order xD

1. Assassin: Knowledge of the stealth mechanic and fits the "balanced look" theory on the webpage.
2. Knight/Templar: More commonly known as the "Blue Mace Lady/Lord." A holy guardian in heavy armor who maybe will smite his/her enemies with spiritual weapons. I like to call it a combination of the Paragon+Dervish+Monk (with maybe some Ritualist if the spiritual weaponry holds true).
3. Mesmer: You can not kill the Guild Wars Mesmer :D This will be a welcome return by many fans.
4. Engineer: Someone else has to be able to use a Rifle, and more so have it as their primary weapon. Concept art of turrets combined with the Rifle makes this one a possibility.

Since I primarily played one in GW, I would hate to see that the mesmer class, or at least something similar, not return in GW2.

So I am hoping a mesmer, or the equivalent. Mesmery, mesmerish. Please? lol

I think you may very well be right about the "Templar" being part of where monk is going. Everyone is getting healing, but that seems like kind of a proper place for smiting and prot to go.

Mage, returning profession = Mesmer

Heavy armor = Blue mace lady, aka, Paladin/Paragon type with access to clubs, swords and things.

Adventurer = Assassin/Rogue type

Adventurer = entirely new profession

*rubs temples and squints*

I see... a Mesmer... a renamed Assassin... a Paladin archetype and...

Nope, lost it. The future is unclear to me now.

Anyway. If it hasn't already been claimed, I think the Assassin will be the 'environmental weapon specialist' - think dirty fighting. Prossibly firearm oriented, perhaps an urban equivalant of a Ranger - who has plenty of melee itself to set a precedent.

My understanding of the variety of MMO classes is basically limited to guild wars. Not really too sure what a knight/paladin or w/e it is outside of buffage like a para. Found this sifting through the concept art also.
Would anyone have any idea what this could represent? casting hammers tied to chains oO.
Some sort of monk hybrid smite/knight/paladin/something else? Dare I say Thor Oo?..lol Norn/ Norse Gods, uh oh

I'd imagine one of the adventurer classes might be some sort of bounty hunter, gunner, pirate, or something along those lines, maybe part thief/assassin also. After reading the book, only other class mentioned in there we know nothing of in GW is a trap disarming, lock picking, sword wielding sly guy of some form or another..lol

Been hoping for some sort of a tomb raider/ pirate sort of class myself.
Like an Indiana Jones type class.lol Yes, with a whip also, new engine in GW2 would be cool to whip and snag things oO. Maybe even use em to swing around, hitch a ride under water or something, maybe through the air..lol.
Could be a cool concept for a second derv weapon if they ever made it back into GW. Although a Derv/Para Combo would make sense in GW2 Universe

Ok, and lastly, Mesmer definitely, seems so wrong not to include the mes. Gwen and all ya know.....lol

Dunno, but w/e they are judging by what we've seen so far I bet they are gonna be alot of fun to play. Those combos..sending enemies airborne..the possibilities..lol

So that is:
Thief/assassin
Gunner/something
Mesmer
Smite Hammer man

Good times ahead :)

Whoa, just thought about this, Mesmer/Gunner oO. Interesting replacement for rupts and edenial

Mesmer and Ritualist are GW's most unique professions. I could potentially see the two of them combined into one class. Have the offensive capabilities of the Mesmer combined with the healing of the Ritualist. That'd make a pretty balanced class.

As for Medium - definitely assassin/rogue. They don't have a melee burst damage dealer yet.

For the second Medium - a druid. Or something like it. Just look at the Sylvari. How can there not be a class like a Druid?

Heavy armor - I hope they have a spear wielder. There are NEVER spears in MMOs, or RPGs in that manner. Spears are like the original hero weapon. Makes me think of greek and irish heroes.

I just noticed, on the GW2 professions page http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/professions/, you can see the other 4 professions in shadow.

Going from Right to left, it looks like

Druid -- look at the staff
Mesmer -- this is a stretch, but it looks like she's wearing fancy gloves.
Assassin/Rogue -- he's hunched over, and you can see what looks like a knife on the right side
Berserker -- Just a shot in the dark, but it'd fit the charr and norn real nice. Could be a fighter for Balthazaar. A reckless fighter, to contrast the more disciplined warrior. Perhaps they use a bit of magic, or get more powerful as they are injured?
