Spoiler tag!! Smiley: mad

Well, I guess at least I know to take Bethany out of the rotation, now.

Eske, just some info for you (related to the above spoiler--it's about how to "choose" each option, if you want to know):

If you leave Bethany/Carver home, the Templars will find her and she will be leaving with them when you arive back to Gamlen's house. Carver will have willingly joined the templars.

If you take them with you, they will contract the taint. That, as you know, means death.

But if you take Anders with you to the Deep Roads, he will alert you to the fact that there are Wardens nearby and Bethany/Carver will leave to join them.

And (this is regarding availability later on--no plot included):

If they become Wardens, they will join you for the final mission of Act II. I do not know if they will be available at all for Act III.

If they join the circle/templars, they will be involved with that same part of Act II (though I didn't check to see if I could add them into my party). They will become available as regular party members again towards the end of Act III.

I totally understand if you don't want to read this stuff--just figured I'd put it out there because it is more interesting than my schoolwork. :P

Thanks idiggory. Figured at this point that I'd give it a look through. It's gonna be a tough choice to make!

Sorry for the spoiler.

Figured everyone was in Act 2+ now anyway.

Right? I wish I had never learned before hand (pretty much the same scenario as you, but not on Zam), because then I just ended up trying to figure out which choice made me less of a douche.

Then again, doing that has kinda come back to bite me more than once in DA2...

I have a feeling what happens with them depends a great deal on your relationship with them, and the choices you make during act one. This is what happened in my game.

I don't know about Bethany (I assume it's the same for both of them though) but when Carver became a Warden, he showed up in a brief CS (mine had Alistair in it, but that depends on what you did in Origins, or which back story you picked if you didn't import a save) in act two, and became playable again during the last section in the Gallows during act three.

Also, that male elf who's name I don't recall, turned on me and wouldn't fight for the mages. He showed up right before the final fight with a group of Templars, but since I never once used him in party, I never leveled any of his stats or upgraded his abilities. I dropped his sorry *** in about five seconds.

Ugh, Fenris. STOP BEING SO EMO. I get it, you had a really crappy life--I'm REALLY sorry for you. But if you complain about Mages one more time, I'm going to stab you. And I'm not even a Mage.

Ditto for Sebastian. STFU. You're responsible for more deaths than most blood mages are. And you are such a frickin' hypocrite.

He's the DLC guy, right?

My biggest issue with this game is that I'm restricted to a four-man group. I could use a tank, but since I prefer having Anders, Isabela and Varric in the group (because they like to joke a lot and seem to share personalities), I have to run without a dedicated tank.

Which makes fighting bosses interesting. And painful.

Many of the bosses hurt like hell with a tank, so I can only imagine what they'd be like without one...

I just wish they didn't choose your companion's talent trees for you. Let me give Fenris a sword and shield if I want, and use those talents. Even if his personal talents are all damage oriented compared to the survival options of Aveline. That would make him viable at least (in a more realistic sense than he is "viable" now).

But, as it stands, if you aren't a Warrior you are practically forced to use Aveline. I'm playing on normal, and Fenris was just taking too much damage. I can't imagine you can really use him on higher difficulties.

If you aren't a Mage, you are forced to use Anders, because Merrill can't even heal, let alone use the stronger spells like regroup/aid allies.

So, as a Rogue, I only really have one party spot to choose for. And that sucks.

They should have made Sebastian another Sword/Shield tank, imo, rather than a second ranged Rogue. Especially when Varric is stronger (iirc).

I don't hate Aveline--I like her enough. But I don't like her so much that I would use her even when not forced.

Aveline + Varric in the group is decent for the banter. I especially love this early one:

Quote:
Aveline: Maybe I should put you to use Varric. Have you pen some warnings for the lawless.
Varric: Who's that for? Are most criminals big readers? Seems like pacifying the nobles.
Aveline: Pictures then. It was just a suggestion.
Varric: Well how about a giant sign that just says "Don't!" You could hit people with it.
Aveline: Thank you, I get the point.

However, I also want Isabela in the group because of her jokes with Varric, but that would leave me without Anders and a healer. There's no way in hell I'm going to heal 40+ hours of questing in a single player game.

Basically, if you go DPS, you have to bring Aveline and Anders, which leaves you with just one spot. I preferred it in Mass Effect where you weren't so reliant on a tank/healer. Allowed you to mix your group based on personal preference rather than "I have to bring this person or I won't be able to complete the game."

I suppose you could spec everyone for maximum CC, but it would still be a pain.

Since I'm a cheating ******* who won't let the man get me down, I used a certain 'runscript killallhostiles' command on a certain boss fight.

Well, two, actually.

But not until my team was dead.

If you're playing on Normal or lower, just tactic up potion use and you can skip the healer much of the time.

I've rotated a few of my characters neglecting Merill and Isabelle the most. However so far my favorites are the ones where they talk about aveline. I presonally really enjoy her personality becuase she one of the few characters that you can tell has an extreme sense of honor but doesn't spend half the ******* game harping on me about it and how I should be honorable.

I also love the rare 3 person conversation. The one between isebella and Varric(sp) about "daggers" to psyche out aveline was priceless. Another one where merill talks about how intimidating aveline is to Sebastian had me in stitches. Although the biggest out of no where one was when anders talked with Sebastien about his belt. That was extremely funny.

I also love to listen to what people say when aveline goes down.

Useful link for those who want to read the dialogs between the various characters:

Change the Isabela part to see the other ones.

"How do you think the maker would feel about you putting his beloved's face on your crotch?"

In that moment, I was glad to be romancing Anders.

Ah well. I'll get her in my party on my 2nd time through.

Sooo, I'm not reading even the last page of this because I read a few spoilers already. I don't even know who Isabella is, but I'll have to watch for some romance or something. Whatever. Smiley: tongue

I just got this game two nights ago. The graphics are good. I wish I could choose another race, though. So, yeah. That's all I have to say 'cause I'm really caught up at work and the other forums are deader than dead.

She's the one from DA:O that would teach you the Duelist specialization (who you could sleep/have a threesome with).

She's now a party member. You'll get her in Act I by going to the tavern when you don't have a quest active there (so just zone in). I don't know what the romance queue is.

Lol, yup. I know you could have one if you were romancing Alsitair and hardened him. I think that was the case with Leliana, too. Zevran probably asked you to do it. Dunno if Morrigan would go for it though.
